I love reading about people who can actually do things like this without any headache. But sadly, I can't put any of it into practice here as our stores do not practice most of these types of coupon transactions. In fact they make using coupons more of a headache than not. And I do not live in a small town, rather a big city. Problem is here though that in this big city every industry is a monopoly right down to our grocery stores. We have 1 company that owns 3 different chains and they are our cheapest stores. Then we have a few mom and pop stores and of course Super Wal-mart and Super Target. But even so they will not honor coupons in the way that.
We have one store left that doubles coupons and they only do it about twice a year for a day for anyone 55+......leaves me out.
No store here will allow you to use a coupon and make money back. If you buy a product for .99 and use a $1 off coupon, you only get credit for the .99
If a product is BOGO free then you cannot use 2 coupons even though they only charge you half price per item. Example: buy one box of cereal for $3 and get the second one free calculates on my register tape $1.50 per box. This is what is stated on the tape, but the stores says no to the 2nd coupon as you are getting the 2nd item free and you cannot make money off the store.
Our stores will not allow you to use 2 coupons on any product either. If you have a coupon and the store has another, you must choose between the 2.
And I actually watched a CVS store manager recently tell a lady that she had to leave the store and come back in, in order to complete another transaction like the one that the lady in the article did. No way were they going to allow her to ring up multiple sales as she stood at the counter.
Because of all this I gave up using any coupons a long time ago. I stay as far away from any and all stores as much as I possibly can and find this practice to be much friendlier on my check book than fighting with corporate headquarters as to what is and isn't allowed and acceptable. And when I do have to go to the store, I only buy what I have to have and do so in the cheapest manner possible. That translates into a lot of plain label items. With prices going so high and wages not, I didn't find adjusting to my new habit so difficult as a quick look at the check book and bills for the month gave me the insight to know that my trip was not one we could afford.
However for those of you that have the advantage of being able to shop with coupons in the manner as the lady in the store I say Good for You. You go girl!!!!!!! The few hours a week needed to shop for almost free is definetly well worth it.
