Very interesting article. What if gas cost $10 a gallon? - MSN Money

Tell me what you think?

I agree life would go on. Though it would change. I do believe that we will see gas at $5 and $6 a gallon -- I have resigned myself to that and mentally I'm prepared! But when I saw that $10 - I have to admit, my heart went cold.

We're at just over $5 a US gallon where we are now. $10 gas scares me. It makes the math on a hybrid a little more attractive.

I must admit that gas prices so far haven't fazed me. My dh has a company car and gets gas included, and I don't drive all that much. But if gas went to $10 a gallon it would definitely finally get my attention!! DH was talking the other day and saying he hopes they don't take his company car away. He's one of the few people who still has one and we live 45 min away from his work. So if they decided to cost cut and take it away...we'd have a HUGE jump in our gas bills.

Yes, life would go on, but it would be very different. When I read the article, I thought it was a little short-sided on the view of how increasing gas prices would affect businesses other than the smaller self-employed ones. With oil costs increasing, many things would increase including goods and services, shipment costs, supplies needed to provide or manufacture goods and services, utilities, etc. If the demand decreases due to tightening of consumers' belts, then a business may have to cut costs which may mean a decrease in jobs.

It's funny you mentioned that. Again, life would go on, I agree. And a lot of people can work from home. But people, who work as cashiers or work for restaurants, those people cannot work from home. I think it would put in more of a divide between the rich and middle class and low income even more so. And that isn't a good thing.

Well let me just say IF it did happen I am glad that I decided to get frugal and budget before hand because it would REALLY have a pinch on my budget.

I think if gas went to those prices many jobs would be lost and things would get VERY difficult for our economy as a whole.

I wish people who had nothing better to do would stop giving them ideas.

Its scary to think about that. I mean, we try to conserve gas but people have to work, go to school, buy food etc.
At least the article said it was unlikely to happen.

London is already paying $10 and Canada is at 7 or 8 last I heard....I think it's time for this country to stop thinking "it's not gonna happen here".

We would be getting rid of the SUV and hardly driving. My husband would probably take the train to work. $4 a gallon is hurting our budget, $10 would be much, much worse.
