Do you think we learn our financial habits from our parents. Some times I think my mom taught me how to spend - or how I should not spend.

My mom did a horrible job at managing money. I know she wrote bad checks, even though the bank covered them. I spent money similarly to what she did, but I can't blame her. I knew it was wrong.

I think so, but I'm not positive. I remember thinking how different I was going to do things. As I get older, I find myself coming around to her way. At least financially.

I didn't! If I had learned finances from my parents I'd be broke! Well maybe I did a little b/c I saw how my dad spent stupidly (like taking a 2nd mortgage to buy a boat) so I never wanted to be like him. And my mom was a single mom that never had money for much but yet she got her hair and nails done at least once a month. I know you have to spend some money on yourself but she could have used that money so much more wisely! Anyway, I guess I learned how not to waste money by watching them constantly waste!

Right or wrong I do believe to a degree you learn from your parents. But at some point being an adult has to kick in and you can't keep blaming them for the rest of your life and you need to start learning from your own mistakes. Trust me, I would if I felt realistically that I could!

My parents were always very good with money. I've made mistakes but I think I got the good money genes from them
They always talked about paying cc balances off in full and living within your means.

A lot of things are our parents' fault, but we are responsible for our own lives and putting in any changes that are needed. We don't have to be our parents or live their legacy.

Yes, we learn from our parents, but we also learn early when they are right and wrong, in most cases (especially after having kids!)

I can honestly say that even to this day, I still have no idea how my parents are with money. I know that my father is pretty good about it with little or no debt & plans for retirement, but as far as my mom & step-father... I have no idea! All I know is that I never wanted or needed for anything.
