How do your finances compare to a decade ago?

Here is a post from my favorite financial blogger that got me thinking about where we were 10 years ago. Now and Then: How My Current Financial Situation Compares with a Decade Ago ∞ Get Rich Slowly

Ten years ago, our first baby was due in 4 months, we were students with no income and we had less than $300 in the bank and our rent was $350. We went to the bank for a loan but even they refused us. We had nothing.

In the last 10 years even though we don't make a big salary, we've lived frugally and generously and that has paid off. We now live debt free except for the house and we have 20% of our house paid off.

Financially speaking are you doing better, worse, or about the same as a decade ago? How about a decade from now ....

Ten years ago I was a Senior in High School, working making $10 an hour and blowing all my money on "cool" clothes, car expenses, cell phone and getting ready for college.

Now I'm a SAHM pregnant with my 4th, my dh makes the money but I'm still the one spending it LOL However I don't waste money like I used to and I save alot. We are financially comfortable and have enough for all our needs and alot of wants.

Ten years from now we should be very well off.

Ten years ago, I was working making good money, newly married with no kids. We were double income no kids people. I had moved into dh's house that he owned so we put away 95% of my salary in savings for the event of having kids and me staying at home. We spent the other 5% on stuff we knew we would not do when we had kids like travelling, cycling and other fun stuff.

10 years ago we got married, both were making decent money, and DH had just started his business so we had a lot of debt (had borrowed lot of money from family for the business so we had to pay them off the 1st 2 years), now we're doing very well, business is doing really good, and we have 3 great boys. We have made a nice home for ourselves. Can't say where we'll be as you never know what tomorrow brings, financially we'll be very well off, but you never know.

10 years ago we were pregnant with our 5th child. We had absolutely no extra money and we lived in a tiny 3 bedroom house. We still are not totally financially secure, but we live comfortabley. We pretty much get what we need and alot of our wants. Our kids (7 of them now) do not really want for anything. I do not have to worry about being able to pay the bills. This to me is good

I am with Stacia, New Grad though I was buying stuff for my dorm and new fashions for impressing a few college guys. I had just recieved graduation checks which was more money then I had ever had. Just got my first checking account oh and had the joy of writing out my first tution bill. Overall it was a different stage of my life.

We ONLY had 3 kids 10 years ago......so finances were better then. We have since had 5 MORE kids.

8 kids = no extra money

We do the best we can, and provide for our family....but not too many extra are happening.

10 years ago we had no kids and were living in dinky a apartment that only cost $400.00 a month. I can remember gas was a little over $1.00. We pretty much spent money on whatever we wanted when we wanted. Now we have 4 kids and a house along with other debt and gas is $4.00 a gallon. I can't imagine what it will be like in another 10 years

I was 22, graduating from college and about to start a teacher's aide job in the fall, then to start graduate work in education in the winter. I had school debt (still do), I didn't own a car and I was about to move back home to live with my parents for 6 months to pay off CC's, buy a car, and save for a deposit on my own apartment. Life was so simple then...
