I have an ING savings acct. It is linked to my local checking account. So when I want to deposit money into savings, I just go to the ING site and have them transfer the amount out of my checking, and into savings. When I want to withdraw from savings, I have ING put money into my checking. It takes a day or two for it to transfer. The ING site is very user-friendly - I like how easy it all is.

I actually just opened one last week. I read an article about saving for large purchases in Woman's Day magazine. So, I decided to open up a seperate account for car repairs.
They have no fees and no minimum balances, and the interest rate is high.

I set it up to automatically transfer money into savings on the 15th of each month. I treat that like another bill, and don't really miss the money.

I like ING as well..when we get our tax refund it goes in there to help pay our property taxes so it's making more interest than it would just sitting in a regular savings account for 6 months. Very easy website to use like Vickilynn said.

I am a BIG BIG fan of ING! I've used them for years! I have over 10 seperate savings accounts for them and I keep opening more as I want to save for different things. I use it for my own electronic envelope system you could say LOL, since I'm not good at keeping cash in seperate envelopes for different things. I have a savings account for me, each kid, travel(this account is for our trip to Europe when the kids are older), RV, Disney, next car, next house (this is for the down payment on our next house when we move), Christmas (I keep this open year round and save a little every month for every Christmas) and home repairs. Plus of course I get a good interest rate, there are no fees at all, no minimums to open or keep your account, very user friendly. It's called the Orange Savings Account. They also have CDs, Mortgages, etc. I opened most of my accounts with $5 and to make it easy I have it set to transfer a set amount on a set day every month from my Bank of America account. You don't have to do that, you can just go in and add money whenever you want, but I believe in easy and I know I would never save if it wasn't automatic! It's nice going in every few months and checking to see how much my balances are up to with me doing nothing!

We opened ours to save for the downpayment on our home and we opened one for our daughter when she was born. When I was working my paycheck was direct deposited into the account.

It is easy to transfer money, higher interest rates than the CDs we had at the other bank/credit union we used, and we mostly use online banking anyway.

I just started and orange savings account for myself this month and I love it!

I would like to start one for my son who is 5 years old. How do you do it? Would you set it up in his name or mine? Do I pay taxes on the interest or if it is in his name is he exempt?

I'm not a tax accountant so you should look into it (its prob right on the irs website), but be aware children pay taxes on income over $600 (or is it $900). So if your son gets more than that in interest income....
ING is convenient, but as with anything, shop around for the best rates..we have a few accounts, but noticed that lately, their rates have not been as competitive as they used to be, even though they're still good. Call ING to talk about opening up an account in his name and rolling it in with your statement. And as with anything, yes, you do pay taxes on interest earned.
