We've just put in new floors and are looking at area rugs for under the coffee table. There is one rug with both really like and no other one we can both agree on.

The good news is....
It's half of what a lot of other stores are selling them for.
It's on sale this week for 20% off.

The bad news is...
They have a 15% 'restocking fee' if we decide it doesn't go with our house.
We have to put 100% down to order it in and then it takes 3 weeks for it to arrive.
If we choose not to buy it once it comes in, they keep 15%.

It's a huge store that has been around for years so there is no doubt they will still be there in a month but I hate their policy. I 'feel' like boycotting it and not getting it just because of their policy. But it's such a good deal (if we keep it) and we both really like it.

What would you do? Is it worth the risk?

I think I'd take the risk. Otherwise, you're back to square one trying to find a rug you both like.

Are you planning on still changing something that it won't match this existing room? I guess I'm missing something as to why you don't think it matches? Or is it the price that is making you second guess?

Good question .. Neither of us are particularly good at 'picturing' what it will look like once it's in. We brought in a couch cushion and a sample of the floor but until we get it home and in place, we won't really know if it goes with the whole room. We were 90% sure it would but wanted the option to return it just in case it doesn't look right once we get it in place.

Buy it and take the chance. Even if you end up paying the restocking fee, it is cheaper than keeping a rug you don't like.

Have you seen it in person? If so, buy it. If you are going to have to order from a picture or a small swatch, I wouldn't risk it.

Another great question. Yes, there is a sample at the store so we've seen it.

Will they let you take the sample home and look at it & return it? Leave a deposit for the sample?

No, it's attached to their permanent display. Good thinking though.
