I am teaching Generation Change (Dave Ramsey's teen version of the value of money) at our local church and we are doing it retreat-style. This format calls for activities to be implemented throughout the day, activities that I am supposed to come up with. Unfortunately, I do not have any children and have never been to a retreat, so I have no idea what to do! My quest is for ideas that parents, like all of you here, would like to get across to their kids or activity ideas involving the value of money, the value of yourself, and budgeting. Anything is appreciated!

I am a caseworker for a foster care agency. I don't know if this might help you but here is a web address for independent living skills. Some of the links provide access to free pdf books/files that might have ideas for you.

Casey Life Skills

Hope you have success! Do you have an outline of what you are to cover?

I would make sure to cover the importance of using cash rather than debvit cards, and if they are using debit cards how to manage a budget with that. I was not prepared as a teenager when I turned 18 to use a debit card or credit card. And here I am in debt that isn't too unmanageable but would be much less if not nonexistent if I had been taught how to use a budget.

I may have some ideas but I need to think them through first. Can you give me alittle more information. How long are you going to have the teens? Are they there overnight or is this daily or weekly?

Good luck.
