Another vote for Dave Ramsey.

Last January I had $29K in debt, now it's $4K and I will be debt free in August. You can do it, it willbe hard, but it's totally do-able.

Good luck, you've admitted you have a problem, that's the first step!

Thank you everyone.

I've talked with my dh and he now knows what I've spent. He did not know before. I am going to my ob in a few days to check for some post partum depression. I tend to have a retail therapy issue. It seems silly to say that, but it really seems to be an issue.

I am familiar with Dave Ramsey and will def get his book. Thanks so much for the suggestions and support.
We are looking to sell our house soon and if we do, that will clear up 30k of the 55k total debt we have. That's 55k in cc and a HELOC. That's not car, etc.
It seems like it will never get fixed, but I know it will.
Yes, my friend is def a keeper for many many reasons other than this.
Thanks again everyone.

Sabrina, I am new here as well.

I could have written your exact post...in debt and not sure where to start. So, I began researching and decided to check out MommySavers and see what everyone else is doing. And, one thing I have heard over and over again is that I have to get serious and stop guessing what my debt is or where my money goes.

I love shopping and taking vacations. I spend way to much of "my extra money" on stuff I don't even need. It's my drug as well...this is a source of stress and conflict in my marriage. Therefore, DH and I rarely talk about it.

Most of our actual debt is due to my DH's 3 year old business. His business has required a lot of expensive purchases...which is a source of stress and conflict for us, so we rarely talk about it. I guess there is no more avoiding it.

Step 1 for me: Pen, bills, DH and me...we have a date to sit down and figure out where we stand.

After that, we will begin thinking about Step 2: Making a plan.

Good luck to you!

I am a huge fan of Dave Ramsey. I took the financial peace university online because I didn't have one near me. Although it did cost me, I have to say it was a great investment. I was pretty much in the same boat as you with spending and using cc. I never knew what was in my bank account. Dave Ramsey finally able to help me understand getting out of debt and managing a budget. There are so many different websites and books out there and I tried everything. I have tweaked things to work for me but I have to say I wouldn't be as far as I am without this class.

Here is the website for dave ramsey's financial peace. There are also a book and workbook. I have to say although I did purchase these items, I dont' think they are necessary if you go through the classes. If you don't do the classes definitely purchase the books.

Financial Peace University

Good luck. It may seem overwhelming now, but once you get started you'll feel so much better because you will be taking control of it. I dont' really worry about my debt anymore because I know I am doing what I need to do and not accruing more.
