My biggest problem with 53 has been that I opened my account in a branch that is over 3 hours away (I moved). Anytime there is a problem with my account - I have to deal with that branch. I love the laides at my local branch - but the only way I can get them to help me is if I closed the old account and re-opened in the local branch. No update yet - we wait for monday.

Oh I would be steaming mad too.

I don't think they should have allowed the charge to go through on a closed account. It should have been denied. I would check with banking regulations on that one.

I would have been mad, too. I used to work for a bank and unfortunately that could happen. The bank I worked for had several instances of that happening, and they had the software changed so it wouldn't allow it anymore. That being said if someone changed their mind about closing their account, we couldn't reopen it with the same number. When that did happen we always refunded the fees and were greatly apologetic. Always call your local branch when you have problems with your account. You will get much better service, and you will be talking to someone who knows what they are doing.

That is sad. The people at your local branch should communicate with your "home" branch for you. The branch you open your account at, is the branch who decides whether or not they will refund fees and what not for you. It affects their numbers. That being said your local branch should offer to contact your home branches manager and work it out for you. That is what the bank I worked for did.

I feel for you..know exactly what you are going through.

I had a National City account that I hardly used (more for savings) and I ended up using it a couple times and was $1 and some change overdrawn. They charged me $8 a day for overdraft charges, plus some other charges that I forget what they were for and I didn't get the letter for about 10 days because I didn't get the mail for a few days. I went in and put enough in to cover all the charges up to that date...and they charged me $8 for that day, that I didn't know they did.. so the next month later, my balance was somewhere around -$200. I called the president of the bank who set me all up, but she wouldn't talk to me.... so I just kept calling back and the teller that kept answering finally said that they would credit my account and close it out.

My other account is like that also, but I have a savings linked to it, so that wouldn't ever happen..
