I'm hoping you can all help me with my 2 dilemmas. I have a cc with a 0% APR until August. The balance is just under 4000. I had planned to put an extra $700 for May and June (so $1400 total) toward it to try to pay it off before August. Life, of course, has gotten in the way. Over the past 3 months, our microwave (over the stove, convection, ridiculously expensive model already in our home when we bought it 3 years ago), main air conditioner, gas grill, dishwasher, and vacuum have all stopped working. We have a line of credit open that we just paid off a few months ago. Should I use the line of credit and pay down the cc or should I use the extra $ and not pay more to the cc? I do not use our cc s anymore and the 4000 is from a business that went under about a year and 1/2 ago. We have paid off a TON of debt in the last 6-9 months and I'm very relieved but I've also sort of become obsessed with it.
My other question is would you get the air conditioner, micro and dishwasher repaired or buy new? For someone to come out to look at each of these is $75 to $100, not including repairs.
Thanks in advance and I TRULY appreciate the advice/tips I've gained "lurking"!

Welcome!

Personally, I wouldn't incur any more debt or switch it around. Do you have to replace all those things now? Can you live with out the diswasher until you have paid off the credit card and save for a few months?
What about A/c, can you survive the summer without it? Over the stove microwave can defiantely be lived without.
You can buy a cheapo microwave for $10 at a thrift store or on craigslist and put it ont he counter until you have saved money to replace formally.

I would be of mind to continue to attack the credit card. If you absolutely can not live comfortably without one of your broken items then pay the minium on your credit card and use the excess to replace what you need. Do not incur more debt!

At least that's my .02.
Good luck

I would not use your line of credit for anything. if it's paid off, then leave it that way. Only replace the item's that you absolutely cannot live without, and try to put as much extra money as you can on your credit card each month.

There is a frugal axiom that goes ... You can't borrow your way out of debt.

As above, stick with your plan and do without until your debt is paid off.

I would not use the line of credit. I would try not to take in more credit.

How old is the AC? The age for me would determine if I fixed it or bought new. That would be very expensive to buy new so I would have someone come take a look and get an estimate, then if not too bad have it fixed.

I don't ever use my microwave-well except for popcorn! So I think you could wait on that one. If you use it alot then I would buy a $10 one on Craigslist for your counter until you have the cash to pay for it. That is not one of the right now needs, unlike AC, you don't want to be without AC in the summer!

The dishwasher is also not a right now need. But I would put it over the microwave that's for sure. But you could save up for this.

The dishwasher and microwave it's probably going to be cheaper to just buy new. The AC you will probably get fixed, unless it's like over 10 years old and you need a new system.
