My Ins company wouldn't let us do this. I guess they make too much money off service fees. We did years ago, however, with a different company. They had a deal that if you paid for a year in advance they would knock off a whole months payment! This was before automatic withdrawl, when you had to go in and pay in person. So maybe that is the difference. Definately pay off something big, though. What a relief to have a bill gone for a whole year! We can do this with our car loan, though we haven't gotten a tax refund in so many years I can't see us being able to do more than the monthly payment

I use to always pay my car insurance ahead and it was nice becuase I never had to worry about haveing the money. Besides if you dont do something responable with the money youll just blow it and be sorry.

We pay ahead our insurance for the house, car, motorcycle and propane. We get a discount if we do this.

I'm going to try the payahead thing with our taxes this time. You ladies are full of such great advice.

i dont usually pay in advance, but alot of times i round up how much i am paying, so that one month is free... eg. if my internet bill is 73.00 a month, i put in 80 so that once a year or so i get a "free" month..

Me too! Even if it's only one bill it will really help while I've got the money in my hand!!

My car insurance is set up electronically with them, so they pull it out of my account on the due date each month, I don't have the monthly service charge that way. If I would just set it up with bill pay from my bank, then I would have the service charge, although, I did this last year and since it was paid before the due date, I never received a bill, so they didn't charge the monthly fee and I always received a refund back. This last time, it was over $100!
I normally pay ahead with my house insurance and taxes and then each month I put back the monthly amount in a savings account that has a high interest rate on it. Then when it comes time to pay it, I have a little extra in there..

I did this one year and it was great... if you have the money and it will help you out, thats great. We may do that this year again, and save the rest of the tax money for an emergency.

This is a great idea! I'm going to talk to dh about it for this year. I always end up just spending the money on something stupid so if it can give us more flexibility month to month by not having a bill...that would be wonderful
