Lots of Mommysavers had already observed this, of course!

America's Shrinking Groceries - TIME

But the claim by Tropicana that they reduced their juice size (but still sell it for the same price) for the consumer's sake is hilarious. Annoying, but funny.

Yeah, I've noticed this with yogurt. Some of those containers are starting to get TINY! (but, that's probably better for my waistline)

I can see claiming it is better for individual servings. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have noticed this too. But the thing that bothers me is they keep saying fuel prices is part of why everything is going up. When in fact most of these companies are not paying extra for transporting their products.

My parents are independent Truck Drivers and they are LOOSING money big time. The rates (pay) for hauling these loads are NOT going up. They are the same as they were a few years ago for the most part. So why are they saying it's gas prices that is causing the food to go up. What my parents used to make as a profit is now going to fuel. It is out of their pocket not the food companies pocket. In some places they are paying $5.50 for fuel! That is just crazy.

I noticed the change with Tropicana this week at the grocery store. I pay $5.19 for the 96 oz container. Now it is the same price for the smaller "pitcher" as they call it. They we actually marketing it as a new and improved pitcher. I was so annoyed that I had to pay the same price for less that I will no longer buy the Tropicana OJ. I have changed to Minute Maid.

Why are they losing money. Why aren't they able to change their prices to cover the higher costs? Gosh, everyone else is. Is it because they are locked into contracts? It would see there would be a notation about gas costs causing higher charges.

And ladies, get mad. Email these companies and be vocal. I did with Huggies, and my voice, along with others made some tab changes. Do it!

Packages of ice cream have been shrinking anyway, but now they've come up with "double churned", with is just more air pumped in. If you set a pkg. of double churned next to a pkg. of regular and let them melt, the double churned will be much less product.

And boxes of cereal are shrinking again. Do they think we don't notice?

Complaining does help. I remember a few years ago when Kotex tried to put less tampons in the box. So many angry women contacted them, that they went back to the old count.

It's not just my parents. It's all of the drivers. I think whats happening is there are much bigger companies that CAN soak up the cost of gas prices and take the loads at the lower rates. So if other drivers try to hold out for higher rates the bigger companies offer to take the loads at cheaper rates. Many Independent Drivers have gone bankrupt because of the gas prices.

My MIL works for a small trucking company and she said they are hurting big time. She said they have raised their rates a bit, but there is no way they can charge the actual rise of cost for fuel because no one would use them anymore. Definitely individual owner operaters are feeling the gas increase the most, not the food manufacturers.

I have two clients who own trucking companies and one quit the business and the other keeps refiancing in hopes the cost of diesel will come down soon..

I was so annoyed when I went to buy a half gallon of ice cream and noticed its now 1.5 or 1.75 quarts not 2 quarts. The price stayed the same.
