I'm kind of with Cookie on having a good emergency fund. I look at it this way. $1,000 is hardly anything if a real emergency brews. I feel more comfortable having a larger emergency fund....around $5,000...before attacking all the debt. For me, I would feel more secure to attack the debt big time with a nice cushion. Until enough money is saved I would pay the minimums.

I am so psyched for all of you that are paying off debt (it seems like fast). I don't have that much disposable income to throw at my debt, so i easily get discouraged. Any tips if you have little to pay down debt?

I've been there and it stinks. My advice is build up a bit of savings first and then throw any extra money at your debt, even if it's $5-$10 dollars. That's how we started out and we're finally at a point where we're "seeing the light" so to speak. Can you have a yard sale or ebay any items that you don't use? Can you cut anything out of your grocery budget?

Good luck!

I can't ebay since I don't have a home computer (only @ work & shouldn't be using it for that as big brother is watching). I've cut our grocery budget down pretty far $300/mo for 4 people & i have a garage sale coming up w/ my sisters in a week. I don't have much to sell since i've consigned most of my stuff & waiting for money to come in from that. I've pretty much decluttered as far as i can since i do it constantly. I'm just running out of ideas. I've tried many of the ones on here. There is starting to be a light shed on my situation as I have one cc almost pd off (about $200 left), then i have 2 other things to pay off (about $1400), then it won't be as bad. I just would like to see results faster.

Stop using the cards and use Dave Ramsey Debt Snowball. His steps actually works for us and its great to be debt free.

We used Dave Ramsey to pay off all of our credit cards about three years ago. Then DH went crazy when he figured out we had all the disposable income and no debt except the house. instead of paying off the house, he went out and bought a new truck, a camper, a motorcycle and a 4 wheeler. Granted, we are still young but now we owe for all these toys and are right back at square one. He just got so excited that we had not cc debt. I have finally talked him into getting back on board through the "FTJ" project here on mommy savers, but I figure we will end up doing the Dave Ramsey plan before it is over. We still have only the $1000.00 in savings for emergencies and that stinks. I am ready to see that account grow.
