America on the decline? - MSN Money

Interesting article -- makes some valid points. What do you think? Is America on the decline?

Interesting article. I think there are many valid points. We are not the superpower we used to be but we still try and act like it spending money we don't have. I think we should let the other superpowers start spending some money on global issues (maybe they do but we never hear about it).

I cracked up when I read the about the billionaire list. It said India had four names in the top 10, twice as many as the U.S. Of course people in India would be doing well -- we outsourced a bunch of our jobs to them.

I liked the final paragraph where is says "Don't underestimate (us)." And I think that is important to remember. I keep reading articles, and have for some time, where we as Americans come across completely incapable of caring for ourselves. I think to think we, as a country, are better than that.

I was doing the math on that too. Twice sounds so much more then just saying 2 more.
So we are in a slump maybe but personally I am not seeing anysigns of a huge collapes. While it sounds strange I am really hoping that this down turn in the ecconomy will also help to balence out our contries materialism.

Basically I Agree with this statement!!

Quote:
We should not underestimate the ability of the U.S. economy to transform itself," says Mauro Guillen, a professor of international management at The Wharton School in Philadelphia. "It has one of the most flexible economies and continues to be a magnet for the best and the brightest." Although the nation is at a crossroads in many respects, Guillen adds, "The U.S. will weather the storm."

meh. our economy comes and goes. there have been lots of times when people were sure this country was going to go under. and there have been plenty of times when we're number one economically. maybe it will take us some time to get out of this, but things won't look so bleak all the time.

i agree with this:

They are also some of them most hardworking, intelligent people in the world. Their success had been rising rapidly long before the outsourcing started.

Speaking of India. There was an article awhile back, I believe I first saw it on MommySavers, talking about this couple and the HUGE house / apartment building that they were building. It had EVERYTHING. But the interesting thing -- all the resources, all the work, the labor, the design, came from India. I think there might have been a few things from other countries but this family made sure that their home was Made in India. Can you imagine a house in the U.S. doing that?
