My dd is 6 1/2.......and she has to save her"paper"money for a car...but change she is allowed to save and spend.(and she tells everyone she's saving for a pink Volkswagon)

My middle son is pretty good about saving...he has a little over a thousand dollars saved.....and is saving for a new computer right now.

Older son is beyond saver,he's practically a meiser, very picky about spending his money.

We've always made saving out to be a big deal, and have tried to motivate them w/rewards for saving.

What do you all do to motivate your kids???

DD is only 2 so we save her "allowance" every month for her and have been since birth. What I am hoping it will show her is that $5 everymonth adds up. We also put birthday and christmas money in there instead of buying her more toys. Like I said it adds up Her acount has $364 in it at just 27 months that is doing pretty good. Yes we are saving for her but I am hoping that I can get her involved every month with putting some of her money into the account. When the account goes over $1000 we will but it in a higher interest savings.

I am hoping to install the idea that saving is important though currently our big task is potty training we will get to money later. I am just trying to lay a foundation for what I plan to teach my kids later on.

My kids have always been savers...don't know why, but they just are. They're very careful about what they want to spend their allowance on - they both each have quite a bit of money saved from their allowance. We allow them to do what they wish with it.

When they get money as a gift - it goes into their savings and investment accounts. We've been doing this since they were born. My parents did something similar for me and when I graduated from college, I got it as a 'nest-egg' - so it was awesome! Just when I needed it to set up my first apartment, clothes for new jobs etc

My kids get $10 a month allowance and a $2 bonus for every $100 in their bank. The bonus really motivates them to save.

Our boys (6 1/2, almost 5 and 8 months) are pretty good at savings, atleast the older two are. Today is Dh's b-day, and we went out to dinner last night to celebrate as he's in meeting till late today, so when bt the time I got home from the office yesterday, they both had made cards for Daddy and put some money (from their piggy banks) in an envelope, sealed and all. They had put coins in there as well as few bills. So we go to the restaurant and DH opens the envelopes (and I'm like I had nothing to do with this), he takes out 1 $1 bill and 1 $5 bill, and the rest in coins (mostly pennies), so DH asked DS (6) why he put that much money in it, and DS said, Daddy I wasn't about to give you my $20 bills, and we died laughing, and DS said, I'm saving that, that's a lot of money Daddy. It was so cute.

DS is 7, and has about 100 dollars in his savings account. He loves getting his statement every month and checking how much he earned (usually around 8 cents). He's still so surprised that the bank is paying him to keep his money there.
