I've had it up to my eyebrows and beyond with the corporation where hubby works!

Back story: Hubby was hired by a small company a few years ago. Turns out they hired him because the owner was looking to sell the company and go into early retirement and having hubby would be a major draw for the buying corporation. The corporation that turned out to be the buyer was a company that had been courting hubby for a long time. He always turned them down because he did not want to work for them. Well, now that the small company is out of business, there isn't many other options (unless we move overseas) so hubby is feeling stuck working for the large corportation until he positions himself to switch industries.

Okay, so he has worked for this large corporation (HQ'ed on the east coast) for a little over a year. We FINALLY got our benefits package straightened out and have medical and dental insurance. That was a nail biter but they finally got the personnel rep to get off her duff and do the right thing. She hates hubby because he works 3/4 time and refuses to sign an employment contract that agrees that he'll work fulltime. They won't give him an employment contract that says he works 3/4 time so there is a stalemate. Note: He works fulltime anyway but he doesn't want a contract that says he HAS TO.

What are the problems we've been having?

~ They messed up our medical and dental benefits and gave us the run-around trying to get them fixed. Finally that problem is solved but I still have an outstanding lab bill that isn't getting paid because of their error.

~ When they first bought the other company, they didn't have a taxpayer ID number for ID. This is an international corporation with branches in almost every state in the USA, and it took them NINE MONTHS to process the paperwork for a new ID number so they could withhold our taxes correctly. In the meantime, did they withhold taxes for the state where hubby's office is located (CA)? NO! They withheld taxes for they state where there corp-HQ is located - one of the most expensive tax states in the USA! Did they reverse everything as promised once they had the tax ID number? NO! We ended up paying MORE taxes to a state where we have never visited, never lived and never gone to work plus our home state as well.

~ We didn't receive hubby's pay stubs from March of this year until July. We have no idea where they were being sent. They weren't being mailed to our home and hubby never goes to his office nor has anyone there said there was a stack of mail for hubby there. Just as hubby complained that he wasn't receiving them, suddenly they started to appear. They are supposed to mail them to our home but just this week his pay stub got given to him while he was visiting the corporate office on the east coast. Isn't weird that they can re-direct ONE paystub out of 40,000 employees just because he happens to be at HQ?

~ We did the open enrollment process last October along with everyone else. Turns out they never did start up the 401k withholding (we wouldn't know because we never saw any pay stubs) and only started them this JULY! Okay, there was a downturn in the market so, maybe, that happened to be a mistake in our favor, but really!! What was the hang-up?!?!?

~ Hubby got a raise and a bonus back in March. Well, since we weren't receiving paystubs I didn't think the raise ever got applied but I wasn't sure and hubby wouldn't say anything until we had proof. So today he mentioned it to his boss face-to-face and he calls the Personnel Manager. She brings paperwork as proof that the raise went through. Hubby called me to tell me I was mistaken. I told him to look at the number on the paystub he so conveniently has at the office and multiply that number by 26 (they get paid every other week). That number proves he didn't get a raise. Sure enough, hubby agrees. So how goofed up does a company have to be to only process half of a raise? Where has the money been going all these many months? Isn't there some kind of double-check system?

It is insane. I know why hubby never wanted to work for this corporation.

I would document every single detail and send a certified letter to the Corporate office in care of the Human Resource Manager.

I would address every single complaint and request an answer by xxx date and if not my attorney will be checking further into the matter. Sign your husband's name of course

It would be worth the 150 or so dollars to just write everything down and have a paralegal write a letter to the corporate office.

Good Luck!

witht he above statement except I think I would have it all done by an attorney from the start. It seems hubby is pretty much unhappy anyway so why not just find another job and sue the pants off these idiots.

Hubby is loathe to change jobs. Plus, like I said, he really has no other options in his specialty. Yes, he has other avenues - plenty of companies that would love to have him - but it takes time at his pay scale to make a transition. He said he is now open to offers so when the conversations start, he doesn't cut them off. The problem right now is he is so danged busy - and burnt out - he doesn't have time or energy to pursue any job offers.

As far as suing, there is nothing to sue. Remember, he doesn't have an employment contract. And ID is a 'right to work' state so he can easily be 'let go' without cause. And, fortunately, most of the problems have been solved. They're working on the missing raise right now. It's just a headache. I miss the old days when hubby worked for a small company that really loved him and went out of their way to make him (and me) happy.

I feel for you. I'm glad most of your problems have been straightened out but boy what a headache!

My dh works for a large company as well. HR is the pits there, too.
