How do you get started? I loaded Quicken back on my computer after a long hiatus and now remember why I gave up on it last time.

It's just too much work getting started! Now I think I see why so many use the envelope system. Trying to budget everything, allocate where's it's gone, download the transactions, reconcile them, you name it. And of course, the accounts won't seem to download properly and keep giving error messages nonstop.

And then, where to start? My checking account balance wasn't $0 when I started?

UGH. This is why I've never kept a budget.

You could start with your ending balance on July 31st and just load the few days of August so far. When you create a new bank account in Quicken for your checking account it should ask for a beginning balance and a date. I'm not sure this helps much.
