I voted for "both." Our almost 13 YO car was a program car that we bought over 12 years ago, so it has a "used" title. Our van was bought new. For me, I only think I will buy a used vehicle if it's from someone we know or maybe another program-type vehicle. We've had problems with used lemons (Dh's) in the past, and they wound up costing us as much, if not more (& the problems were still there) than what the payments of a new vehicle. But, we also had payments on the used ones as well.
When I buy a car, I do so with the intention of keeping the car until it just about dies. So buying new can be worthwhile if you keep the car for 10+ years and properly maintain it.

We bought both cars new--so stupid. The first one I bought 11 years ago because I wrecked my beater and couldn't come up with even $1000 to buy another one, but did have the $350/month with no money down to buy new. The 2nd one my husband and I bought new 7 years ago and paid full sticker price. Both are paid off now and thankfully still running great. I will never buy new again.

Wow, looks like I am the only one here who doesn't own a car! I can't say that I mind it, because my work is across the street from my apartment, and the dollar store is down the block. School is across the street. I just get a ride from a friend every week or so to the grocery store to get what I can't buy at Dollar General. It's not too bad, and no insurance, gas, or car payment for me!

My very first car was a brand new car, that I paid every penny of it.

My second and third cars were both used. I got alot of years out of every one of them, still driving car #3. Car #2 I sold to my ex.

I have to admit, I'm terrible at buying used cars. No matter how careful I am and how much research I do, I end up making a bad decision. I'm much better at buying economical, practical and value-oriented new cars. We generally arrange our own financing - and have gotten some terrific deals in the process - then pay off the loan early. I drive my cars into the grown and generally own them for 7 to 10 years so I get my money's worth. But I have learned that I have to buy new, despite all the financial advice to the contrary.

We have a used car. I don't think we ever had a new new car.

All three of the vehicles we currently have were used. We've bought one new vehicle ever - it was a Suzuki so it was cheap & had a great warranty, but just too small. We probably wouldn't buy new again unless we had the cash to pay for it.

I've had my vehicle since 2003. It's nice to have a car that's been paid off.

We are t he exact same way! We have had TERRIBLE experiences with used cars, so we will only buy new. We do look for the most practical and economical though, put large down payments, and we plan to drive them until they're dead before we get a new one.

Dh has no idea about car mechanics, so he always bought new cars. The 2 we currently own were bought new.
