I am hoping someone can help me with this. I am looking for a inexpensive (but nice) gift to make for my coworkers and some family members. I would like to try to make homemade bath salts. In fact, I found a few websites that have the cutest "candy cane bath salts". They are pink and white striped in the jar.

Two of the ingredients are epsom salt and kosher/sea salt. Here's my question: Could you make these with just epsom salt - and leave out the kosher or sea salt? We live in a really small town in the middle of nowhere and I can't find kosher or sea salt around here. If I could make them with just the epsom salt, that would be do-able. But. . . I thought I'd see if anyone thought this would work.

What do you think? Thanks for your input!

I did bathsalts for a christmas gift a couple of years ago. I'm almost positive that I just used epsom salt and no sea salt. They turned out fine. I added some yellow food coloring and some mango oil. The candy cane sounds really cute. But I'm not 100% sure about the salt and I don't think I have the recipe anymore. Not entirely helpful, sorry.

epsom salt will be just fine!! sea salt is more of a out there thing to get, walmart does carry it in the pharmacy section right next to the epsom salts. you want to be careful you don't use to much scent, and if possible use essential oils, some people have bad reactions to synthetic scents.

I made bath salts at a MOPS meeting about a month ago. We just used epsom salt, food coloring, and the fragrance. We put everything in a bag and shook it up. It was really easy and it smells really good. I haven't used it, though.

Thanks so much for your input! I am looking forward to trying these candy cane bath salts at the end of this month. I don't really know how many people would want their bath smelling like mint, but it sure did look really cute in the picture!

you don't have to do mint you can just do the red food coloring and do some other fragrence. just a suggestion. my friend and I did this a few years ago as her bridal shower favors... Just make sure what ever you mix in/with that you plan on throwing it out or only using it for that purpose.
