... that wow, if I just didn't have that one bill (in this case I'm thinking my house payment), we would have so much more money!

Don't worry, I'm not seriously considering NOT paying my house payment. It's our house, first of all, and even if we didn't have a house payment we would still have to live somewhere and pay rent that would be pretty comparable to our house payment. Though I suppose I could move in with my mother and she wouldn't charge us rent!

I use to think like that. I remember when I got my first car on my own and had to make $200 payments per month. I thought wow, when I pay this off, I am gonna have an extra $200 per month. Guess what, I didnt. That money always finds it's way to another bill-maybe paying off more on an existing debt or being stupid and going out and getting something else that requires another monthly payment.

All the time - especially the house payment. I have often thought about paying off the house just to have the extra four-figures in our monthly cash flow. Yes, I know all about how it is wonderful to have the tax write off and the interest is tax deductible, etc. But you know what? I'd rather have UNsecured debt, than secured debt. If I don't pay my credit card the worst they can do to me is ding my credit rating. If I don't pay my mortgage, I could lose the roof over my head!

Absolutely.

I also wonder how some of our neighbors afford to pay twice or three times as much. We have a new development across the road.
