So far I have seen this board pretty split on Dave Ramsey...So I thought I'd put it out here and ask....

Why are you a fan? -OR- Why are you not a fan?

I'd say i'm not a fan of Dave Ramsey, because from what I've read about him and from what's been mentioned about him and his strategies on MS, I think it's all just COMMON SENSE.

I personally do like Dave. His advice is clear cut and common sense. I have read TMM and had a few Ah-Ha moments. I still don't follow his advice 110% (maybe if I did I'd have less money issues ), but I keep what I do in the arena of his advice.

3boys I had to laugh when I hit post and saw we replied at the same time with the same conclusion (common sense), but different opinions of Dave

Let me say that I am not a big fan of Dave Ramsey the man. I listen to him sometimes and he sounds arrogant, whiny, and holier than thou. Some people love that about him, though. That being said, I am "on" Dave Ramsey. As in, his program and his books, which don't have the same tone that the show does. I don't follow his stuff to the letter because there are a few points of his that I disagree with, but I can't deny that his program gets you energized and enthusiastic, which goes a long way in my book and is why so many people are "on" Dave Ramsey.

What I am a big fan of are his principles. Living "spartan" for the short term to get debt free so that you can reap long-term benefits. Saving instead of spending. Getting those student loans paid off early. Getting everything paid off early, or not taking the debt out in the first place. He is a "true" fiscal conservative, which I admire and think that we need more of in our society.

That's funny. But I tell you, it is Common Sense. Everytime I'm flipping thru the channels in the middle of the night (because I can't sleep), and if he's on, I do end up watching the whole show (hoping I'd fall asleep), and I just think, why would someone buy into this? It's all just common sense. I wonder how much money he's made with his stuff? I wish I had thought about this 'common sense' product and made money. LOL

He is common sense - he would say that as well. The problem is that if it was such common sense then why are there so many people "in debt up to their eyeballs"?

Amen, sister!

Weight Watchers was built on common sense principles too...
Some people--most people, I'd say--need a hard and fast program and a kick in the pants to jump start and follow through. I'm definitely some people. I Love Dave. And since acting on his common sense instructions got me to a very happy, debt free place, I'll keep following his lead, even if some of his advice is counterintuitive.
