Let me start out by saying thank you for reading this!! My brother got engaged in May 2008. I have meet his fiance about 5 times and have met her two youngest kids twice. She has three children in all and I have never met the oldest. I want them to feel like part of the family and want to buy something for each of them (even though my brother has said not to get them anything, except maybe his fiance). The oldest boy just graduated from high school this past spring (not sure what he is doing after high school), then the girl is going into 4th grade and the youngest boy is going into second grade. I was thinking of doing a "family" gift and getting them all a Wii (my brother included) since I wanted to spend about $200-$300 for all of them.

Are there any other gift ideas any one could come up with for the age ranges? I am just having a tough time. I know they could just exchange it but any item I look it I can't decide if it is too babyish for them etc. Please help!! Thank you

i think a family gift is a good idea but you could also do something for your brother and fiance and then do gift cards for the kids. my kids even m 4 year old love gift cards. they like to pick what they like.

Is the wedding before Christmas? I usually wait until after the wedding to get gifts for almost-family members. If the two younger kids are going to be AT the family celebration, I might get them something small and age appropriate. The same goes with the fiancee.

Lastly, I'd go with my brother's wishes / advice on the matter. A huge family gift could cause far more family tension than it is worth.

They haven't set a date, and doubt they will get married before Christmas. I think he told me not to get the kids anything because he doesn't want us to feel obligated that we have to go out and get something for all of them. I figure if people say the Wii is great for families or suggest something else, they can always return it....they are moving in together once he sells his house...

I would probably get the oldest a gift card since he just graduated and may not be around to use the Wii, plus it would come in handy if he is going off to college. I think the Wii is a great idea for the rest of the family since it is something they can do together and it can help your brother bond with his step-children.

I personally think the Wii is an awesome idea. I know my whole family has had a blast when we have been able to use one. It is just as much fun for the adults as the kids. A great thing to get the whole family involved.

I, too, think the Wii is a great idea. That will be a nice surprise.
