If it can wait we use our tax return money for major repairs.

most of the time we use cash. But if it's sometimes we have to use credit card for those very expensive, somethings broken NOW projects--like the leaking swimming pool liner and the broken concrete. (i hate that pool!)

Thankfully we have no things that need fixing. Our home is only 9 years old. I could use paint on the front porch, but between car repairs and gas and food and just every day life, paint is the last thing I feel like spending money on. When I do finally decide it is time to get it done, I will pay cash.

We use our house emergency account or the tax refund. We did, however, do a refinance to do a home improvement project (put an addition and remodeled our kitchen). We still have at least $200,000 in equity in our home, but if we would have been left with little equity, we wouldn't have done the remodel.
