Yes, i am worried about DH's job lately. The owner of the trucking company he works for can be a shady character sometimes and we have had one of dh's paychecks bounce a few months ago. One of his coworkers just had his paycheck bounce 2 weeks ago.
I'm not worried about mine, our busy time is coming up.

Not currently. Hubby works in an industry where, when times are good he is really busy with new equipment. When times are bad, he is really busy with customers who are trying to do more with the equipment they already have. The worst development we've seen more and more manufacturing and engineering going overseas so hubby's job goes there, too. He has experienced a huge increase in international travel which is really hard on him and the entire family. Even if hubby got laid off - which is unlikely because he is the only person in the world who can do what he does (his co-workers only have parts of his ability) - then he'd just contract his services directly to his current customers. Again, that would be even harder on us, but we'd survive.
Right now we're working to restructure out financial situation so we don't have to worry about anything except our most basic expenes (not even a mortgage). Once we get to that point we can truly go to both working part-time and hubby could even switch industries. That's the ideal. I'm trying really hard to get there.

I don't worry about DH's job - his department is in desperate need to HIRE officers. Unfortunately the budget cuts don't allow for much incentive to potential officers.

I'm not worried, my DH works in the oilfield industry, they never have enough employees and are practically begging for workers all the time.

not at the moment. Dh works at a private, independent, all girls school that is thriving and expanding, the school turns away girls every year. The school caters to people that are not affected by the economic downturn, they are losing money on paper, but not in their lifestyle. The 20k tuition is very little money to them. Working at a school with such wealthy students can be frustrating sometimes, but there is a feeling of job security.
The surf business has also been doing well. Our clients are mostly San Francisco lawyers, techies, consultants, etc that are unmarried and don't have children, so they have money to burn. Our clients for surf camps are mostly girls from dh's school.

i do worry sometimes dh works in manufacturing but i don't think it will be an issue since his company made more than 12 billion in profits last year and they are working an average of 50 hours a week. plus they lay off based on senority so an entire 2nd shift would have to go before he would be in jepordy. but you never know what can happen.

Yes, I do get concerned. DH just got laid off, but may be called back sometime. I have not been laid off, but if I would get laid off, it would be indefinite, so I wouldn't be called back. I worry less since getting married, but still get concerned. DH definitely needs to get a different job, since he makes next to nothing once his child support is taken out, plus it is in the car industry so that is always iffy. My company is a manufacturing company and has definitely seen a downward fall in profits, sales, business period the last 2 years. We are still laying off people, so I'm not out of the woods yet. The more they lay off, the scarier it gets because soon, they won't have slackers to lay off, it'll be the people who actually do work for them.
Regardless of what field you or your dh works in, I would be concerned. People just aren't spending money like they used to and with the talk of credit crunches everywhere, everyone should be concerned.

I worry because he works for a financial company. Although he tells me they have never laid off employees and that the only time they ever eliminated jobs, it was just the contractors. He is in the IT department. He also does consulting work and has been taking everything he can there. He is starting some extra studying this week (after the world series ) so that he can learn new skills which are always handy. I wish I would feel as confident as him about his jobs. There are already rumors flying around that there will be no bonuses this year.
We have talked about if need be either of us would find whichever jobs we could. We'd have to be creative for schedules because we have 2 small kids at home but I think we could manage. We are frugal and creative.

I am beginning to worry about DH's job. Right now he's working over 40 hours per week, but his company doesn't have any new work (yet) after the new year. They have the current jobs, but no NEW ones. DH works mostly commercial...new school additions, additions to businesses, etc. People just aren't spending the money right now, so the jobs just aren't there. Things could change before the new year, but right now, we are concerned.
Having said that, DH has several qualifications in other fields of employment, so he should be able to find a job SOMEWHERE, but chances are, he'd be travelling for work. That is our worst case scenario, but not the end of the world.
