Have you decided whether to travel over the holidays?

We are staying home. Our family from out of town is coming here right after Christmas and staying through New Year's.

Dh has mentioned going to CA again this year. I have no interest in going. We spent a lot of money to fly all of us out there to sit at his brother's house. We only left the house once well twice if you count when we went to the store. There was 15 of us all in a four bedroom house. It was madness the whole time. We were all on top of each other the whole time. We didnt fit in the living room or any room all together. Totally craziness. Not my idea of a good time.
I figure I can sit at home and go no where over the holidays and save tons of money. Funny how quickly dh forgets how rough it was when we got back. We were gone about 10 days. That means 10 days of NO money coming in. Dh is self employed so no vacation days or anything like that. We got about a one month behind on bills because we just had to go to CA. I didnt want to go last year either because I knew we couldnt afford to do it plus come home and have money for bills.

Normally we leave early on the day after Christmas to go visit dh's family. They live 420 miles away and we stay for about a week (we do this trip 3-4 times a year, usually week after Christmas, Spring Break and 1 or 2 weeks in the summer). We are the only part of the family that does not live there and they never make the trip to visit us, except for MIL who usually flies up for a visit 1-2 times a year. It's important to us that ds grows up knowing all his family well.

This year I will be 37 weeks pregnant on Christmas and we decided awhile ago that we will not be going. I can't do the 8 hour drive (we drive straight through) and I don't want to be that far from home at at that point.

Instead, we are visiting at the end of this month. Dh is taking a few days off the weekend before Halloween and we are heading down there for 5 days. Ds can trick or treat with his cousins and we can see the family before I get too far along.

We'd love to be able to go to Orlando to see Himself's brother - we've been together six years, and I've never met my oldest brother-in-law. But I doubt that we're going to have the funds to be able to do so.

We always travel and I'm happy to do so. We're very big on family relationships and I wouldn't feel right if I didn't spend the holidays with family. To me it's one of the best parts of the holidays.

Baby made that decision for us. If we'd gotten pregnant a month or two sooner, we might have gone to CA, but we don't want to go with him this young. My sis is visiting right now and my brother and SIL are coming in a few weeks, but no holiday visitors.

We usually travel to see our parents. They are three hours away. We have no children so it's easier for us to travel.
This year DH would rather not go. He'd like to go away. We haven't decided yet. I don't think our parents would be too happy!

We always do. 6 hours away. I don't mind the visiting but the weather can be really bad at that time of year and driving in ice and snow makes me a bit nervous. One time it took us 10 hours because of an accident. Another time we had to find a hotel because the highway closed due to ice.

We don't travel far if at all. Relatives that live close get together, but that's about it.
