We dont buy as many as we use to. Up until about a year ago, we didnt have cable. So buying DVD's was our only entertainment. We have always been bad about taking rented movies back on time. So for us, it was more affordable to buy DVD's than it was to rent them. We do however buy all the kids movies that come out. Again, it is cheaper to do that than rent them half a dozen times and pay late fees.
Our town is little so our library doesnt have any real new movies. Plus 98% of them are on VHS. I still get movies for the kids there, but when we want new movies, it is worth it for us to buy them.

I have pretty much stopped buying DVDs. Except for Disney for the kids. If one is coming out that I think might be good. I request it from the library. If it is one that I love, (like Dreamgirls) I find it used on ebay. There are a few series ones that I will buy, no question. Like Harry Potter. The best place to get that unfortunately is "The store who will not be named". Hee Hee.

I have to admit that we usually buy 1 movie a month for a family movie. The last one we bought was Bridge to Terrabithia- which was really good and well worth it! I agree with the person that said it can be justified when you take in consideration how much it costs to go to the movies and so on! My mom took me and the girls to the movies last Firday to see Ratatoullie (I forget how to spell it) and just for us to get in cost $26! That would pay for a new released movie and some junk food to watch during it- well if you get it the week it was released!

The only movies I buy are holiday ones. We always miss them when they are on. So this way we can make it part of our holiday. The Christmas ones are even packed up with the decorations.

I definately think it's a waste for us to buy. We can borrow them from the library whenever and they are free. They get the new releases too.

We mostly just buy kids movies, and even that is because we didn't have cable until a couple months ago. Lately we have been collecting Seinfeld seasons when they go supercheap at Target. We also have all the Holiday shows (Garfield, Rankin & Bass, Charlie Brown etc).

If I buy dvds at all, I go to Blockbuster and buy the pre-viewed ones and only buy them when they have a 4 for $20.00 deal. Dh and I haven't bought a dvd in forever because we netflix.

We buy quite a few but its $5 to rent one and if its something we like we'll watch it over and over. Especially me. We don't have cable and only get one channel with static so it probably evens out.

It keeps us from going to the theatre too. If there is something we really want to see we can buy it for about as cheap as going out to see it and then we have it to watch anytime we want.

I also get them from the library,borrow from friends and buy them used at blockbuster sales.I refuse to go to the movies. I went to see shrek 3 with my fam of 4. With 1 lg popcorn and soda it cost us $55. I almost died. That is crazy! I could buy 5 movies for that price! I buy all the Disney movies,I love them!Walmart now sells 2 movies in 1 case for $9.99. I recently bought 2 movies,and got 4 for the price of 2. Confusing.

I will only pay full price for a DVD when it is to be a gift. Otherwise I will buy them when they are $10 or less (usually $5.50). I borrow many videos/dvds from the library.. and when we can squeeze it into our budget we belong to netflix.

Renting from the video store just doesn't work for us. We end up with way too many late fees! Sometimes even borrowing from the library doesn't work so much.. but at least there, the late fee is 25cents/day & it goes to buying more books/dvds.

Most of the ones we've acquired lately (or should I say...DH acquired!) have been from the "$5.50 bin" at Walmart. He justifies buying them because of the price, but most of them end up just being another cheesy western.

I have bought $20 movies for DD, although I try to buy "classic" movies...Cinderella, for example. Last time I counted she had over 50 movies alone. DH and I have probably 50 as well. Mostly westerns, action (DH's choice) or "chick flicks" like Steel Magnolias, Bridges of Madison County, for example. I also have all the Harry Potter movies, which I LOVE!

I don't mind spending money on classics, or movies I know we'll watch over and over again. It's just about the only entertainment expense we have.
