I used to put away quite a bit at Ponderosa's buffet years ago. (I can still remember getting a whole 4" plate of diced ham with cheese sauce on it LOL) My sister and I could definitely eat our money's worth and have a sundae at the end for dessert. I haven't been there in near 15 years. Now, I could totally eat my money's worth at the chinese buffet, but they closed and I haven't tried the other buffet in town. Pizza hut buffet isn't that great (I would get it for the salad more than anything). I am glad that I went to Shady Maple Buffet when I was in Lancaster last month (even at a $15 price tag). My SIL paid so I definitely ate my share -- 3 plates stuffed full of food, and dessert to top it off. I was overfull, but it was DELICIOUS and it was a treat that I don't normally get, so I indulged.
The best tip? Get the buffet for lunch, not dinner. Cheaper prices and there is usually not too much of a difference in the foods they put out between the two sessions. Also, food is fresher in the afternoon than it is at night, when it's been sitting in a warming tray for 6 hours because they made a giant batch of mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese for the entire day.
