Theyre so expensive, why not just stop by a grocery store on the way home and pick up ice cream or a pie on the way home?

We never buy desserts, they cost way too much. For the price of one dessert I can buy something at the grocery store or make something at home for all of us. For me and hubby we get ice cream from the store and that lasts us three nights.

As a treat sometimes we'll go out to eat and just have dessert. If we're really hungry we might have an appetizer, too. Portions are always so huge at restaurants, how much more can a person eat?

We hardly ever order dessert or appetizers.
There's so much food on the plate, we often have leftovers!

We never order desserts either. Although, at cheaper restaraunts, when the kids haven't ordered a very big meal, they sometimes get a bowl of icecream. But sometimes I do offer to buy a box of icecream on the way home. Another cheap thing, is if the appetizers and desserts are big enough, buy one of each and split them both with someone else, and have that be your dinner or lunch. Those desserts are so awesome and it is a shame not to taste them ocassionally. Plus I drink water.

we have the opposite philosophy. we eat dinner at home and have a fancy dessert somewhere else. i love sweets; when i go out with friends i skip the main course and go straight for the dessert.

We always order water only, I don't want to pay big $ for soda, and I don't like my kids drinking it anyway. And yeah, no dessert for us.

Have you noticed that restaurants are now offering 'shot glass' desserts? They are smaller sized desserts for about $1.99 a serving. TGI Fridays offers three shot glass desserts for $5.

Of course, to really save money, don't go out to eat.

Absolutely... no drinks! First, we only drink water at home anyway, so why pay for something else that we aren't used to having? PLUS, I cannot get myself to pay $1.50 for a 2 liter of soda, so why would I pay that much for a GLASS of soda? If everyone has a drink, that adds about $10 to the bill!

Another thing... if the kids are little, you probably can just feed them off your plate. I ask for a plate and just put some of our food on it for my son.

One more idea.... sometimes we like to order about 3 items and then just share everything.
