At one stage my friends and I would go to movies every week as it was really cheap to go on a certain day. We never bought any food, or it would have just been too much, for the wallet and for the hips.

However now days we only go a few times a year - and I refuse to pay those high prices - we normally do share a popcorn but any sweets or cooldrinks we bring in ourselves.

I will bring my own water bottle. I refuse to pay more than a dollar for a bottle of water. Also, they have free movies here in spring and fall, and I would have to take the little one with me if I wanted to be able to take the older ones. This is the only time I would take a baby/toddler to the movies, because during the free movies, there are always babies. So I can't very well give her popcorn, nachos or candy. I would bring her something of her own to eat. The other two would get the kids bargain deal.
Now I might bring in some candy bars, but we always by the pop and popcorn when we go.

Well we only go to the theatre that costs $2 to see the movie. I figure then we can afford popcorn and drinks. I do buy the candy from walmart which is a $1.20 cheaper than in the theatre and bring that for dh and ds. But today I think I will bring popcorn, juice pouches and candy for us(I do have a big purse) so we can get something for dinner then.

WHEN we DO go the movies I sneak in candy and a 20 oz. drink, but sometimes the kids will want popcorn so that has to be bought. I don't see anything wrong with sneaking in food at the theater, since they're sneaking money out of my pocket with the high prices. JMHO

Both. If DH and I go, we do not eat or drink (we always have dinner before the movie) If the kids and I go DS wears his jeans from Hot Topic ( the big baggy ones with the huge pockets and chains)and we stick canned soda and candy in his pockets.

If you have a drive ins nearby, go to that instead. You can bring already popped microwave popcorn, drinks, candy. Or you can even bring in a pizza or pick up some fast food along the way.
Its rare that we go to the walk ins. I prefer to go to the drive ins or wait for it to go on dvd in a few months.

Wow, I'm kind of surprised at the number of 'sneakers '. I personally am not, it's not something I want to teach my kids...If we can't afford it I just say no.

We don't go to the movies very often but when we do, it is a treat and we get the kids their own sodas and DH and I split one them we buy a big ol popcorn and ask for cups or small bags) and they are more than happy to give us some.

If you don't mind my asking, and no one has to answer, but have your kids ever 'called you' on sneaking in the food? How do you respond? It seems almost a catch 22 to me- tell your kids the truth and that you're breaking the rules, or lie and say there's nothing wrong with it. I just know someday it would come back on me...Junior steals some gum and gets punished for it but his defense is he thought it cost too much, and then adds"just like you used to sneak food into the movies Mom."
