I love the candy called dots but would rather spend 99 cents at the store and bring it in then spend 4 bucks at the movies for them. We do buy popcorn and soda, we get the kids pack and it has candy in it for 3 bucks so its not too bad.

Okay well, I'm on the fence on this one.

When I was younger and used to go to the movies all the time, we used to stop at the store and buy all kinds of snacks and drinks and stuff them in our bag. I saw no harm, no foul, as I just couldn't justify the cost of movie food. I wanted to enjoy the movie with a snack and I worked hard for my money. I couldn't see the point of spending my whole paycheck on a soda for the flick.

NOW, that we very rarely go the movies as there are 5 of us, I DO buy snacks there. I think it has gotten a tiny bit better as they have 'value' packages when they didn't before. YES its still very pricey to go to the movies, but when I take my girls, we go to the matinee that only costs $6 a person and I let them get candy there because its our TREAT and our day out. I get popcorn for myself, share it with the girls, and we buy a HUGE soda and share it. Dh doesn't want to go most of the time, so I leave him home with ds.

It will usually cost me about $12 for snacks, and another $18 for admission, so it does add up. And by snacks, I get a small popcorn, a large soda, and 1 thing of candy for my girls to share.

The Bee Movie is opening soon, I was planning on treating my girls this weekend. Guess I better save up.

No, you are not the only one. I don't want to teach my children that either. Although, I always have a water bottle in my purse so I guess I am a sneaker, but only because I always have one. It is a Weight Watcher thing, I guess.

I am surprised that I am the only one who does not buy food at the movies!!!! I just don't care for movie popcorn and I don't do the candy thing. Very, very rarely I will buy the kids something, but that is only when it is the free summer movie. Even then they share a popcorn.

The theater we go to is small local one that is only $2.00 a person so I don't mind buying a large popcorn and drink for us all to share (2 adults, 3 kids). Usually costs us under $20. Plus, since the theater makes its money on concessions, they don't allow outside drinks or food and have their "spies" in the theater to watch for those that try to sneak something in.

2bearsmom, I think that taking something that you already paid for into the theater is something different than stealing something that you have no intention of paying for. So Jr.'s argument wouldn't work for me.

I always carry diet coke with me...no matter where I go I have one in my purse. Before kids I would just drink my soda and not buy anything at the concession. Our only theater is $7 per ticket and the concession is highway robbery. I am not going to pay $3.00 for a soda when I have one for $.25 in my purse. Now that we have kids, we rarely go to the movie, but when we do we buy the combo pack of a medium popcorn and 2 sodas. Matt and I get our soda in one and share it, then we get lemonade for the boys to share. Then all of us share the popcorn. I really am not judgemental about anyone who takes in food/drinks or decides to blow a wad of money at concessions.

I think that it isn't about "stealing" per se, but about how everyone should have to follow the same rules. If a movie theater doesn't want you to bring in outside food then I would want my kids to follow the rules.

Have I ever snuck food into a theater? Yes, when I was younger before kids. Was it wrong? Yes, I think it was.

Would I do it now? No...I don't want to set that kind of example for my dd. I know it isn't the popular opinion on this board, but that is how I feel. I kind of equate it to lying about your kids age to get a lower price on food or admission to an place/event.

I may sneak food into the theater that I paid at the store their full price for, and I never lie about their ages when I go out to eat.

I sneak in my coffee from the loyality cafe (buy 10 get 1 free) and get the chocolate from the supermarket. The prices at the cinema is too high.

I would not say to my kids "oh lets sneak this candy into the movies" at our movie theater no where is it posted no outside food or drink so I would just take a baggie or two of candy in my purse and a bottle of water, if we want a drink or popcorn I would buy it but I would not fill up or go extreme I do not think it is necessary

By the way... I LOVE GOING TO THE MOVIES*!*!*!
