It doesn't hurt to ask. If you have a smaller appetite, some restaurants will let you order a lunch-sized portion at dinner, saving up to 50% on your bill.

That is a good tip.

Or depending on your spouse's appetite some restaurants will let you split a dinner for maybe $3 additional, which still comes out to be less than two dinners.

We have an Abuelo's (mexican rest) that opened here a while back. I always get the lunch entrees for dinner because you're right....they are cheaper and their regular portions are way too big, so the lunch ones are just right. A good reminder.
