My husband has to go on a business trip to Las Vegas in January. Our room will be covered for 5 nights, but we need to pay for 2 nights. Does anyone have any ideas for a good place to stay? We want something on the strip, but everything seems expensive. Thanks for your help!

I was just there in October and honestly I thought that Imperial Palace was a perfect spot and the rooms were not that bad. Where are you staying the 1st 5 nights? You might want to consider someplace that is not too far from there. HTH

In Feb we stayed at The Flamingo, and I didn't think the rooms cost that much. It was the food buffets that ate away (sorry for the pun) at our budget.
Have a fun and safe trip.

Where are you staying the first five nights? If you like it and would be willing to stay a couple extra nights, ask if they'll give you a deal for the two extra nights. Hopefully the nights you pay for are weeknights--I know when we went out there most places weeknight prices were 1/3-1/2 of weekend prices!

I don't know about hotels cause when we went my hubbys job paid for our stay at MGM Grand. Anyway dow on Freemont street in "Old Vegas" under the canopy of lights are some really great older buffet style restraunts that are cheap!! We ate a ton and the the drinks were included for like $5 a person. Also there is sooooo much to do and see for free there. Of course some of it you pay for like the eiffel tower and a gondula ride at the Venitian which I highly recomend... Absolutly beautiful!!! Still, if you look around and research a little you will find great deals!!! Have fun, and remember your walking shoes!!

From a an avid Vegas "go-er" (my parents come from Hawaii so we were always making the trip up there to see family and friends who decided to visit the 8th Hawaiian Island) here are my suggestions.

If you want to stay close to or on the strip...The Riviera. It is right across the street from Circus Circus. You can probably get a room for under $120 a night. Maybe even $90 a night. Or you can try some of the other motels like any of the Accor brand ones, Motel 6, etc. They have some that are only a block or two off the strip.

Staying in Downtown LV is a good option too. The rates there will be between $90 and $120 a night. They are plenty of things to do there that aren't as expensive as on the strip...some shows, free light show at night, open Fremont Street with free bands, some shopping etc. You can always catch a cab to take you to the Strip from here. It will cost about $40 one way. I basically spent most of my time when I was a kid here when we went to see relatives from Hawaii. There are lots of good places to eat Downtown too.

Are you going with kids? If you are...then I would recommend staying closer to the Strip. There are more things for the kids to do at the casinos than at the ones Downtown. M&M/Skittles Factory, MGM Grand, Circus Circus, Treasure Island, Excalibur, etc. I think there is also a movie theatre/Dave and Busters type place on the strip too.

If you want to go shopping...there are TWO outlet malls within 15 minute driving distance of Vegas. One is on the south side of the Strip....about 5 minutes. The other is just north of Downtown by about 10 minutes. LOTS of good shopping...just be prepared for crowds and lots of tourists.

There are also a lot of fun things to do outside of the casino area. You can go to Hoover Dam or do day tours for hiking, museums, etc. Just check out the flyers at the front of the lobby of your hotel. The concierge or bell captain at your hotel should be able to help you book anything you want to do.

Also if you are planning to see a show on the Strip (I.e Cirque Du Soleil, Blue Man, etc.) make your reservations for them ASAP. They sell out fast. IMO both Cirque and Blue Man are awesome shows!

Oh and don't forget to check out the Tigers at Mandalay Bay. Very cool. You can watch them from the casino lobby. And Madame Toussaud's Museum at the Venetian and the gondola rides at Paris. Oh there is so much to do and so little time.

A money saving tip...if you can get a room with at least a microwave and fridge you can save some money on food by going to Albertson's grocery store. I think it is just a few minutes from the Strip.

Have fun!

If you are planning to go during the holidays...it will be CROWDED!

My parents are nuts and are planning to go up there for New Years Eve!

Sign up for email alerts from the Strip hotels. Most are owned by just a few companies, so when you sign up for Luxor emails you can also get info for MGM Grand, Circus Circus, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, Treasure Island, New York New York, City Center, and Monte Carlo. They'll send you great offers (and January is typically a slow time so even better deals than usual) that may include restaurant and spa credits with your hotel stay. We stayed at Luxor last summer (busy season) for about $110 a night and also got a free meal ($40 credit.)

I am guessing it is too late for this response but I will respond anyways. The further away from the strip the better prices you will get on a place. There are lots of things to do here in Vegas. ( I live here. Born and raised!)

Sassy,

I agree!!! I avoid staying on the Strip like the plague...but I do like to visit the sites and take the monorail.

I LOVE the Golden Nugget downtown. It is a great hotel, and so cheap compared to the Strip. I know that they recently renovated it...the last time I stayed there was 2005 (that was my last time in Vegas on my own dollar, but work has paid for me to go twice since then). Downtown also has some pretty good food deals (prime rib for $5.99, etc).
