My friend from high school and our friend from Spain are all planning on meeting in New York City for a Wednesday-Sunday trip (in April).. we can not find hotels for under $200?? Anyone have any ideas? We won't be able to go if we can not find cheaper hotels. Thanks for the help!!!
I had a friend who found a place to stay in NYC on Craigslist. It was an efficiency apartment that the owners weren't using. I think it was around $100/day - plus they got all the kitchen stuff too so they didn't have to eat out for every meal. Sounds like an awesome trip! Have fun!

NYC is expensive...I assume you won't have a car, because if you did, you could stay in NJ or CT for a lot less. Or use public transportation. Like the Hilton in Newark NJ at Penn Station is probably less than $200 a night and you're a short ride from Manhattan.
Airport hotels are often cheaper but if you don't have a car, you'll have to check into public transportation to see if that is feasible and then also figure out the cost of that transportation to see if it really makes a difference.
I would check all the usual suspect websites and have them search all their hotel brands, off the top of my head...
Then also try some of the sites that gather than info for you, Dh and I have found that one doesn't really have better info than others...just depends on where you're going, the flexibility of your stay etc
You might also consider calling some hotels directly in the area you want stay. Not the 800 number for reservations at any hotel in their chain, the but the direct number to a specific hotel and ask them if they have deals going on, special rates etc
Also just get on google and start researching - search for sites with hotels that aren't part of chains, B&B's etc that include reviews (I always find that helpful)...and just spend some time calling around, asking for availability, rates etc Also try asking some places if they can recommend another hotel that might have rooms, you can sometimes get hotel name that way that just might work.
Like this hotel appears to be within walking distance to a lot of great things and the subway...typical rate at about $124 per night. It won't be the hilton but from the reviews it looks like it could be just fine. Just depends on what you want.
You can also go to Priceline.com and name your own price for a hotel. It allows you to choose the rating of the hotel (2, 3, or 4 star), name your price, and see if they take it. We got a 4 star hotel for about $65 a night once doing this. It is worth a try!
I don't have any ideas for you but I just wanted to share that I had to laugh at the title on the forum board All I saw was "Help Please I need money" I was like I do too So I clicked it - Sorry I don't have any ideas.
I grew up in NYC and go back once or twice a year to hang out in Manhattan. Only once have I stayed in the city ($250/night) we usually stay in a NJ motel that is right next to the Holland Tunnel. The PATH train station is a 5 minute walk away and 5 minute ride into Manhattan - it is/was $2.00 - they have multi-ride tickets available for a discount. The motel in NJ is usually less than $100. If you need more info PM me I have LOTS of cheap places to eat and cheap/free fun ideas for fun in the city.
i've heard there is a hotel called POD HOTEL. it's supost to be much less expensive, but small little rooms, some with private bathroom, some cheaper ones with a vanity only, but you share a bad. you may check this out too.
