That is a terriffic idea! I will keep that in mind. It would be easier than toting food for a week.. My husband is ALL ABOUT bringing along food.
This may seem like a dumb question, but why not just go to a grocery store and BUY food when you get there? That is what we do. There is a really nice Winn Dixie a block from the entrance to hotel row. JMO

Unless you are staying on Disney property you could probably walk to a grocery store.

We stayed on Disney Property and didn't have a car.

Thanks for all your tips, allgirls.

We are planning on going in August.(I know, the hottest time of the year!) Just wondering if anybody has gone then and how bad it is being so hot there??

allgirls, I think you said you did the dining plan...how did that work for you? We are looking to do that, but on other boards, it sounds like it might not be enough food?? My family of 5 can eat pretty good, with the exception of my youngest. We would get one table meal, one quick meal, and one snack. I wasn't planning on also getting groceries, now I'm not so sure. What are your thoughts??

We hope to stay at the Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge. Do you think the resort really matters since we would only be sleeping there??

The penny souvenirs sound great since my kids aren't into the disney clothes.

Also, I'm interested in knowing, was it REALLY that crowded?? I've heard so many stories that it is awfully crowded. How was it when you went??

As you can tell, this would be our first really big trip, and I haven't a clue what to expect, although I've been reading up on everything I can get my hands on. So if you or anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!!

We were there in August last year and plan to go again this year in August. The crowds weren't as bad as the year before when we were there in July. It is hot and humid but we live in south Texas and have the same weather here. We have never done the dining plan since we stay in a suite with a full kitchen and eat breakfast and most suppers in our room. I buy little disney things all year long and every morning at breakfast I give them something. I buy glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets at the 99 cent store to give them during the parades.

The dining plan is WORTH it, and trust me its plenty of food! To make it easier for time, we did breakfast in our hotel room with food I brought. That gave us extra snack options with their plan! Well worth it I swear!

We did Disney in August with 3 adults and 10 kids(2-12y,1-11y,2-8y,1-6y,1-2y,3-1y) . We stayed at All Star Music and enjoyed it totally. It was hot but I didn't seem to mind. My step sister did the dining plan and we used up all the rest the last day. The one thing I really remember doing is buying double hamburgers and getting an extra bun because they are sooo big.

When we left the hotel (Pop Century) I had some dining snacks to use up, I picked up a bunch of BIG bags of Chip and Dale pretzles and drinks for the road trip home!

we didn't do the dining plan but for us having smaller kids we didn't think it was worth it for us. also we didn't want to waste time having a sit down meal. we only had 2 sit down meals the entire 4 days we were there and one was not planned at all. I personally didn't think the meals were as big as people said, but we also didn't have enough snacks with us so we were all probably very hungry. we ususally shared meals and everyone excpet 4 yr old was still hungry. If I could have gotten all quick meals I might have considered the meal plan. There snacks are soooo over priced that I just couldn't see wasting money on it. even with the dining plan they are taking into the average cost of snacks.
as far as resorts I don't really know much about any of them except where we stayed. I do know that my friends stayed at pop century and dh said it was always busy there no matter what the hour. he was there at 11pm and it was like it was daytime with the amount pf people around. Our hotel was much quiter. we rarely actually saw people except during the day and even then they were quite. we were hardly there either. the hotel's all have different amenities. ours had a hot tub but pop century did not and going in Jan we loved the hot tub, in august maybe not so much.

I have to save that as far as crowds I would compare to my local theme park. There just weren't big crowds when we went. the sat morning was the busiest, we were at magic kingdom but it was our second time there so we only were doing what we missed the first time. The longest line we waited in was probably 25 minutes but I don't think it was really that long. that was for the tea cups. The kids went on one ride 5 times and were able to just get back in line the lines were so small. they usually got on the next ride. The rides do have a sign that says how long the wait should be. It might be different if u are doing all the really popular rides.
