Definitely call the restaurant, the manager needs to know. Who knows how many people she's scammed who didn't notice?

wow. people really suck sometimes. when i waitressed and someone would pay with credit card and leave that tip space blank i would always put a line through it in the tip space so that noone could add a tip amount in that spot. it never occured to me to add my own tip amount in that spot. people can be so greedy.

I will be changing the way I deal with receipts at restaurants from now on!

This is exactly us. I really need to save the receipts for restaurants too.

I had an elderly friend of mine that needed me to go out of town to check on her so I was not able to go to the restaurant and speak with the owner but I will be doing it in the morning and update to you all on what she says. I'm just so grateful that so many of you have seen this post and hopefully it will not happen to you.

Be sure the charge has actually posted to your account, and not just in "pending". Some restaurants, (California Pizza Kitchen is one of them) calculate a 20% tip and when putting through the charge, automatically put it on to "hold" the funds. Then, when the actual charge comes through, it's for the charge on the slip. For whatever reason, we also put cash down for a tip or perhaps put in a smaller tip, and I noticed the next day the pending charge was for higher. I complained to the manager about it and was explained that it was a corporate, computer - generated thing, and they couldn't adjust it. I wrote corporate and haven't noticed it done again there. However, I have since noticed it done elsewhere.

The charge is no longer in pending but that is a great tip! I had no idea that the processing companies added that type of charge but it's great to know that for the future. I spoke with the manager (owner not there) and she was extremely nice and is going to handle the problem. She has to look back through the papers and receipts to find ours and assured me she will call me back today after lunch time. I did try to contact Regions bank before the restaurant opened this morning and they told me that we could file a claim for the charge if it was not handled to our satisfaction by the restaurant.

Thanks for the info. Whenever we eat out and pay with a credit card we write out the word "zero" or "nothing" on the tip line.

I agree that you should call the restaurant and tell them what happened. Who knows how many times this person (or others) have done this to people.
