Oh my goodness!! I can't believe someone would be so bravely dishonest!!! That would have ticked me off to no end and I wouldn't be happy until she was fired. I too check my statements after eating out and I'm glad I did. We went out to a favorite Indian restaurant of mine for Mothers Day and I checked the statement online on Tuesday and there were 2 charges for the same meal! I called and at first they kind of acted like I was making this up, but I was adamant about it and told them I'd produce bank statements and receipts. Then they started taking me seriously and checked through everything. They called me back and told me there was something wrong with the credit card company and things were being charged twice. I have no idea how true that is, but I'm getting my money back and they said it would take a couple of days so if it's not there by Friday, I'm going over there personally to get my $$!

I normally pay by cash because i'm not keen on people taking my cc out of my sight. This is so sneaky, I would not return to the restaurant until that waitress is fired!

My husband is a bartender and a waiter for his part time job. Whenever we go out to eat, he always puts the exact amount and then puts his initials before the first number and after the last number so noone can add anything to it. Good luck on getting your money back.

I can't believe so many have had problems with this. I must admit I don't check but I will from now on and I will be doing something to the line so they can't add an extra tip for themselves. I just so can't believe someone would risk their job for a few bucks. I mean most people won't check but at some point someone will and then they will be fired.

i am also a bartender and would never think about doing that! if a person writes down a tip and adds wrong, i go in favor for the customer. if they write down a $5.00 tip but only add it up to $4, i only take the $4. kwim? i had a horrible server one time and i got a discount at this restaurant. so, in order to receive the discount, we have to automatically tip 20%. well, the service was HORRIBLE! i decided not to use my discount and let her $0. for a tip. she wrote in her own tip on the cc receipt. as soon as i noticed this, i went to the restaurant with my receipt and talked to the manager. he brought the waitress into the meeting and promptly fired her. i always write a 0 with a line through it for a tip and leave cash. she wrote in a 10.00 tip. i got my money back, she got fired, and the manager offered me a job. it is very wise to check your statements, there are alot of dishonest people out there. you all can come sit in my bar anytime and never have to worry about this happening to you!

Yeah I friend gave me a similar idea years ago! Just write "CASH" in the tip section and total it! Simple solution!

Like someone mentioned, when leaving a cash tip I think it is always best to write the word "CASH" where you should write the tip amount. This way there is not confusion.

I can't believe this has happened so much to people. I will be triple checking my receipts. I guess I always thought people were honest.

Uno Pizza around here has started bringing a little hand held computer over so the credit card never goes out of your sight. I hope more companies start doing this.
