We have booked a condo for September at Myrtle Beach (Cherry Grove area) through North Myrtle Beach Myrtle Beach SC South Carolina North Myrtle Beach Condos North Myrtle Beach Vacations North Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals North Myrtle Beach Houses Homes. We homeschool, so we waited 'til after the peak season was over & found a 3BR oceanfront unit for $498/week before taxes, etc. I checked LOTS of rental companies, etc. & they were the cheapest, hands-down. We have four kids, though, so a standard two-bed hotel room wasn't going to work for us. Hope this helps

I grew up 2hrs from Myrtle Beach, so I was there at least once a month! It is beautiful, but as stated by everyone else, not really very frugal. I say just splurge a little and enjoy yourselves!

I went last year and hope to go in Sept again. It was a earned trip, so I didn't have to pay anything.
But we went to soomething boardwalk?? It was shops and lots of fun just walking around at night. May to go get dinner and ice cream. They have a ton of fish to feed. kinda cool to see.

Lots of mini golf.. I think they just opened an amusment park near by. I saw it on tv.

Have fun!!!

Hard rock park is expensive $50 per person, you are better off going to family kingdom. It is a smaller amusement park but also half the price.
There is a small zoo called waccatee zoo that cost about $7 and you can buy peanut/feed for the animals. There are lions, monkeys, tigers, bears, etc. It is just a little dirt path zoo.
There are a ton of putt-putt places, some you can pay to play all day.
Some one already mentioned the state parks and brookgreen garden.
There are 2 outlet malls

We Love Myrtle Beach!!!

Although...my biggest money savings tip....is go in the winter. We have gone between Christmas and New Years every year for the last 7 years and before that we went in Jan!!!

But....that's a different subject. Still there is plenty to do and always ways to cut budgets!!

Some peolpe mentioned Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing. Yes they are shopping areas...but our kids love just walking around. In Broadway there is a small playground, water taxis. fish to feed and fireworks many nights!! At Barefoot...there is much of the same!

Someone else mentioned the Waccatee Zoo. Our kids have gone there every year since they were little. It's a small zoo. But the fact that you can feed most of the animals is so much fun! The monkeys are great to feed...they play catch!!

Food can be expensive, many rooms have kitchens so we buy for most breakfasts and lunches. Food Lion is a good grocery store, sign up for the free discount card...we use ours every year! Some reasonable resturants we like are:

*Steak and Shake: its a chain but we none around here
*Logans: anohter chain we don't have...the rolls are to die for!
*Bummz : right on the beach...try the grouper strips!!
*Thorny's : very family friendly..and tasty!

Of course the ocean is there...and it's free!! The beach is large.

There are plenty of those coupon books (Sunny Day guide, you check out befor you go on the internet!)

Well...I could go on and on!!! Let me know if you have any specific questions or are looking at any hotels and what an opinion!

HAve Fun!!!

We own a timeshare in Myrtle Beach and we go every year! They used to have a pavilion theme park but they have torn it down. There all kinds of outlet shopping centers to go to but that is not a money saving tip. Theres tangler outlets, barefoot landing, and broadway at the beach. As far as the kids there is Ripleys Believe it or not museum and aquarium, grand prix in North Myrtle Beach ( I dont know if this one is still there ) Magic Kingdom (a theme park with rides and go carts ), and there is several water parks.

Hope this helps, if I can think of anything else I will post it!!

We love Myrtle Beach our girls are still going at 21 and 24 so here are a few suggestions. We enjoy Lakewood camping resort right on the beach. Even if you don't have a camper they have villas to stay in. This year a 3 bedroom (queens), 2 bath with full kitchen ... pretty reasonable (sleeps 8). www.lakewoodcampingresort.com Activities include minigolf ($), paddle boats, indoor/outdoor pool, beach, kids & family scheduled activities, big slide ($), so quite a bit to do at the park and you can cook in 2 meals a day which helps save. It states alcohol prohibited so very nice with families. Rent a golf cart and cruise in the evenings - very relaxing.

Many activities we have enjoyed at MB here are some inexpensive ones. Hunington Beach State Park, nice beach (shells sometimes) but you can see aligators in the wild almost everytime you visit - boardwalk into marsh - small entry fee. Barefoot Landings NMB Fireworks Mon, Wed parade, evening entertainment through the summer and Tigers Preservation Station can watch the babies and even have your picture taken ($) holding the animals. Long walks on the beach with my girls!

Places to eat. Ultimate California Pizza (they'll deliver if you want to say in), River City Cafe (Hamburger night), Nances Creekfront in Murrels Inlet good seafood 4-5pm 2nd adult meal 1/2 price.

You might consider purchasing a MB VIP card $10 before you leave Myrtle Beach VIP Card - Discounts in Myrtle Beach.

You have gotten some great ideas already, we have always preferred staying in Garden City (to the South) or Cherry Grove (to the North), and you get the same great beaches with a lot less people and traffic.
The all day Putt Putt is always great (but some places only let you play until around 3:00 so try to go early).
Broadway at the beach is our favorite place to go in the evenings for desert. The boys love to feed the fish and I love to watch the people. I believe it was already mentioned that they have fireworks some evenings.
The state parks are also pretty cool and are a break from allot of the touristy stuff.
Not to thrifty but always fun are the theme restaurants such as Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood and NASCAR cafe.
Have a great time, we are only 3 hours away and try to go at least for a weekend every year. I love that place!
