Of course you had to go and say "no gutter mind" -- you know that's the quickest & cheapest route to go!
I listen to the little hints of what he wants for a snack and then surprise him -- I just made homemade chocolate chip cookies last night for him! I'm forcing him to take some to work and share, but he's going all toddler on me and giving me a pouty face.
I set out all his shower stuff too, and have a cold drink ready for him when he walks in the door from work.
I think the biggest thing is providing him with a home that is clean and cared for, as it gives him a haven from anything that's happening with work. That and listening to him while he talks about his interests (and joining in sometimes!) -- he's easy to please.
Oh, and a hot juicy steak cooked on our new grill paired with smashed potatoes, and a salad (all with on-sale ingredients of course!) :P
