Certificates from restaurant.com, coupons from the entertainment book. Those are great ways to go out for cheap. DH likes to shop, (I dont LOL) so he'd go to the mall for fun, just to walk around. Go out for coffee. Watch a movie and have some wine when the kids go to bed. Sit on the front porch or back deck after the kids go to bed and have a drink or two....

These are some great ideas ladies and I'm going to put a few to good use. Dh and I are trying to get out of debt so he just started a new job and I just got one too (was a SAHM) so now he's working nights and I'm working days so we only see each other about an hour a day right now and its taking its toll.

Keep the ideas coming...

Cook him a nice home meal, and then buy him sweets and chocolates. He won't eat it (and he'd give it to me), but at least it makes him feel special. LOL

DH and I love to ride motorcycles . so for our cheap date we take off on the bike and ride up in the Appalachians Mountains. We usually take a picnic lunch and sometimes we double date with some friends of ours. Our last day out we rode for about 8hrs. and we did a lot of site seeing. Our cost was a hefty $15 for the gas. Our 16 year old stayed home and the youngest spent the day at MIL's. We love those dates.

Of course you had to go and say "no gutter mind" -- you know that's the quickest & cheapest route to go!

I listen to the little hints of what he wants for a snack and then surprise him -- I just made homemade chocolate chip cookies last night for him! I'm forcing him to take some to work and share, but he's going all toddler on me and giving me a pouty face.

I set out all his shower stuff too, and have a cold drink ready for him when he walks in the door from work.

I think the biggest thing is providing him with a home that is clean and cared for, as it gives him a haven from anything that's happening with work. That and listening to him while he talks about his interests (and joining in sometimes!) -- he's easy to please.

Oh, and a hot juicy steak cooked on our new grill paired with smashed potatoes, and a salad (all with on-sale ingredients of course!) :P

We recently realized that we can have a great date with a cheap bottle of wine (you can get a bottle of wine at Trader Joe's for $1.99 or 2.99 depending on where you live) and a little appetizer (like cheese and crackers or something). We can sit outside and chat as we sip wine. It's relaxing and easy to do after we put our daughter to bed...low on effort, but great for talking about stuff.

We are also starting baby-sitting swaps with other families. We'll start sometime soon with at least two other couples. So, every three weeks we'd watch our daughter and their kids and then the next two weeks we'd get free dates (as far as baby-sitting goes)...sometimes it's just nice to get out, even if we spend nothing or little when we do .

We live near a small local college and almost every weekend they show a movie for free. Here you don't have to be a student to go. They are ones that have just come out of the theater. I buy a couple boxes of candy at Rite Aid (on sale) and we get to see a new movie for less than $5. We don't do it that much any more because we don't have a babysitter, but I'd love to start doing it again.
