How do you "date" your spouse, or keep things fresh and interesting (keep your mind out of the gutter! ) for less?

Sorry, Kim, but it seems that the gutter is the best place to reach them. For women, we have to feel close to our guy to have "relations", but for them, they need "relations" to feel close.

DH likes to reminisce about dinners and places we visited before we had kids, when he felt he had more of my attention.

It's been impossible for us to get a date, as we have no babysitter. So I'd say that if your kids are little, the first thing to do would be to hire a babysitter...picnics are good, too, where kids can run around. Just talking for parents really helps the connection.

Dh and I love to go to the bookstore. Barnes and Noble has a little coffee shop in their store, so we will go and have a cup of coffee and a muffin and then go browse. They have couches in the middle of the store and we will sit and look at a book or magazine or just talk. We also like to walk around the mall. We can spend an afternoon at the mall and not buy anything! I love that dh doesn't mind going in to all the "girly" stores with me! He shouldn't though, since I can't count the number of afternoons I've spent in Lowes looking at power tools!

Every other week me and my DH get one night without both of the girls so we go out on a "date". For the most part we have spent quality time doing house things (nothing more romantic than helping your DH shovel a french drain and spreading river gravel!)- but we try to do little things like go on a walk w/o kids, go get a small ice cream somewhere and share it, get a movie we like to watch without kids (Minds out of the gutter- usually horror movies!) and so on. Usually we try to do the little things that we know each of us like- like making dh something he enjoys to eat- maybe light a few candles to go with it and so on.

We don't get too much time to ourselves so once a week we try to stay up later then normal and watch a movie or show that we both like together.

I will sneak in the bathroom when he is in the shower and write a message on the mirror, nothing in the gutter just something sweet. I have even wrote little notes and stick them in his underwear & sock drawer as a surprise.
will even pop a bowl of popcorn and share it and watch a special tv show or movie together and this can even happen when the kids are up they just normally are in the familyroom watching tv so we get the main one.
The other day I took a notecard I had and wrote a sweet message in it just to cheer him up because he was having a bad week at week.

he's coming home today and his work car doesn't have ac.....so it's an hour or so ride home in the heat.....I have a glass of lemonade chillin in the fridge(ready to be handed the min he walks in)his clothes and everything he could need for the shower is ready.......and I cut up all his favorites fruits.(chilled & ready)and the garage door is open so he can pull right in.

I also have some things ready to go for smaller projects he wants to get done.

I have become a cheapskate while saving for our house so here goes. all FREE/CHEAP

1. Homemade coupons for different things that he likes (use your imagination)
taking out the trash to washing his car to...

2. I mail him a card so that it will show up among all of the bills etc.

3. When its cold I put his PJs and towel in the dryer while hes in the shower so they're warm and toasty (he loves this)

4. Set aside a night to give HIM a mani/pedi and massage

5. I do theme dinners. I recently served him homemade chinese in a geisha costume I got for 10 bucks on clearance and played an asian themed cd I found at the dollar tree.

6. Naked twister ( not for everyone but...)

7. I ask his opinion on things even when I dont need it.

8.Candles and inexpensive wine and I read him some poetry that I wrote for him.

9.Took grocery store flowers, put them in a vase with a nice card, took them to his job and had them page him overhead to come get them after I was gone.

10. Threw him a birthday party at work. All of the other guys were jealous because it was all incredible hulk themed. (they really are big kids ya know)

Home made chocolate chip cookies always seem to do the trick! He loves when I bring him a few fresh from the oven.
