If your looking for an inexpensive vacation check out a timeshare presentation. They usually offer you 2 or 3 FREE night stay in the area and usually will add gift cards or tickets to an area attraction for just listening to a 90 minute presentation. I have personally done Whyndam Vacations and a couple of others.

My family is the Brady Bunch...we have 4 kids total. We love to travel and decided after listening to 3 or 4 presentations that we would purchase a timeshare. AT THE PRESENTATION THEY wanted to charge us $18,000 for approx. 2 weeks a year at any of the properties. We did our research and purchased 3 weeks off ebay for $3,000. We will be using our 1st week next month in Sedona, AZ and I'm looking so forward to our vacation. Since there is 6 of us we reserved a 2 bedroom condo which has a living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and so much more. We are headed to the Grand Canyon and river rafting in July.

Just curious: where will you be staying in Sedona? Which property?

Be forwarned that if you do this some Timeshare salespeople get nasty and mean if you turn them down. We went to a presentation (used dh's mom timeshare for a weekend) and when we turned down one salesman they brought out another. When we still refused they told my dh he should be ashamed for not providing the best for me and asked him what kind of man he was . When we tried to leave they wouldn't let us, it was awful and really not worth it. I've heard some other stories from people with similar experiences and some with better experiences. IMO you should just approach with caution and be careful because they will say whatever they can to try to get a sale and don't believe that you can sign the contract and then change your mind in 1-2 weeks by mailing them a letter. They will make sure they never receive it.

We had a great vacation last year by going to hear a timeshare presentation. I was leary of going because of high pressure sales but was pleasantly suprised they were very nice and very professional. We actually were able to rent someone else's timeshare at a wonderful price this year at the exact place they were trying to sell us that timeshare last year. Now we just got back from Florida and decided to sit through another timeshare presentation while we were there which was suppose to be 90 minutes. This timeshare presentation has turned me against ever sitting through another one! It lasted three hours and they had four different people trying to close the sale. Very high pressure and even insulting! Saved us $400 on Disney tickets but goodness I think my dh and I would rather pay it instead of going through that nightmare again.

I have experienced both sides of this, I have sold timeshare and been on a holiday as a customer.

I realise there are some horror stories about hard sell techniques both here and abroad which I personally never experienced, however have heard plenty about.

I did however use a timeshare allocated for other people and the complex was on the Costa del Sol. I really was fantastic, and although we had to sit through a presentation whilst there, the facilities were second to none and I would think of doing another.

The only thing is these complexes seem to be in more built up tourist friendly areas meaning it is a little more expensive that other locations.
