Dh and I are going to the Sturgis rally in SD this year. I'm so excited. Just wondering if anyone else has gone. I've done a search for discounts or coupons for Sturgis (restaurants, shops, etc. ) and couldn't find anything. They even want to charge for the visitors packet. Those who have gone, did you have a plan to save $ or stick to your budget there? Any suggestions would be helpful. We plan to take a cooler w/ some food so we're not eating out all the time. The campground we're staying at has a chuckwagon and I don't know what the price would be compared to bringing our food, eating in restaurant. Any suggestions or tips would be helpful.

We happened upon it seven or eight years ago (it doesn't seem like that long ago). It was a HOOT!!! Mass people! Lots of alcohol flowing freely and some other narcotics I'm sure. Very interesting clothing choices of both men and women that you may need to put blinders on your children. In the blocked off areas for Sturgis you will have to walk because of the all the bikes and people.

We stayed at the KOA campsite and used the suttle as much as possible. We had a motorhome to cook most meals, but did eat out to get the buffalo burger experience.

There is a TON to do in South Dakota, so plan your days well. Don't just stick around the tents. I suggest going to Mt Rushmore during the night as well as the day - it is beautiful all lit up and with fireworks (find out if they will be doing them). Crazy Horse is another sight I would recommend. Depending on your kids ages there is a reptile haven and a drive through wild life zoo (Bear Country I think is the name).

If you or someone you know belongs to AAA try and get information for free that way.

have FUN!!!

Yup, but than I have lived 30 miles from it for about 9 years. It is definately interesting.
Only crappy thing about it is that everyone (hotels, restuarants, etc) jacks up their prices so they can make all the money that they can. Going anywhere that week is a total pain for locals.

FYI The kids will not be w/ us. Some family (cousin and her dh, uncle, aunt, my dad, extended fam., and friends of family will be going on bikes) and we're taking the Windstar. We plan to party w/ out children for a week (responsibly of course lol). Dh and I are getting there a day earlier than the bike group to do some sightseeing in Deadwood and Mt. Rushmore.

I never been there but I dream of going sometime in the future (without kids too!). Have a great time!
