My husband has a manager's conference for work September 7-11 in Vegas. They'll be staying at Mandalay Bay. He said that in the past, managers have brought their spouses with them, so we got to talking about me coming with him and doing our anniversary stuff then instead of in July. The more we chatted, the more I realized that those managers that brought their spouses must have just had the spouse book their own trip to the same place at the same time as the conference. I thought I'd do a little searching to see what it'd cost for me to go. After going through numerous flight/hotel searching sites, I went through the Mandalay Bay site for a flight/hotel combo. It would be $740 for airfare and 3 night hotel stay. Is there any way to make it cheaper? Is there a hotel next to Mandalay Bay that I could stay in that's more affordable? I did a quick google and found Luxor, New York New York and Treasure Island are all cheaper and on the Strip - are they near Mandalay Bay? I do have AAA - do they have anything of good savings?

I know it's a long stretch of finding cheaper prices and somewhat coinciding flights, and I'll spend most of the day laying by the pool while DH is in conference meetings all day [SUCKER! ] but we'd love for me to come with him so we can do a few things together and have some time alone for our anniversary. We've wanted to see Cirque du Soleil or some kind of Vegas show, and I'd love to go to the MB Shark Reef too.

Maybe I'm just being selfish.... I'm slated to go to Dallas, TX the beginning of October for a MOPS convention for 3 days (but I only have to pay for my meals). I just would love to go away with DH and this is a great chance - to have his flight/hotel/food paid for by his company.

Wouldn't you just stay in your husband's room? I'm confused!

My sister goes w/ her DH on business trips & they tack a few extra days on to make a vacation out of it all the time. She stays in his room. Just book the airfare & get added on to his room. Pay the difference to have you added onto his room.

I'm also confused as to why you couldn't stay with him...why would there be a charge for that anyway? I've stayed at Mandalay Bay with my Dh when he's been there on business and there were no extra charges for 'adding' a second person to the room. I've never heard of that.

i tried to "edit" to add, but there is no edit button. DH is going to call about it this week. with thousands of managers, they have them split between two hotels and put two mgrs to a room. so I dont know if they just let those who wish to bring someone along just pay for half the room or what they do... i guess we'll see.

Okay...gotcha. So yes, the pairing up with collegues makes the whole thing a little more complicated. I guess I would see if Dh could make it so that he has a room on his own, so you can stay with him. Does he know how other people have done it in the past?

I know that Mandalay Bay is one of the pricier hotels. Try looking at pricing at the Excalibur, Tropicana, NYNY and the Luxor all are real close to MB and you can take a tram that goes from one hotel to another, the Tropicana is accross the street from Excalibur, but from there you can hop on the tram (free)

I see that his convention is on the 7th, I know leaving on a weekend will cause pricier hotel / flight prices. see if you can leave on a monday morning and then meet with him that day.

Be sure to look online for coupons you can print out also when you get into a taxi at Mccarran be sure to grab a coupon booklet out of the taxi.

Also there is a bus that goes up and down the strip, it runs pretty much all day/night. Buy a 24 hr pass from the driver. I forgot the price. I think it was $5 but thats unlimited use and it goes all the way up to fremont street and back to the strip. Its a double decker bus and its a great way to get around.
