Many people's current health savings account (HSA) expire at the end of December. If you have one, make sure you check your balance. It may be time to stock up on over-the counter medicines or contact lens solution for the winter.

If you have receipts that require reimbursement you may want to get a head start on it now. Last year our HSA informed us that any receipts turned in in January (we have four months to turn them in after year-end) would take three months to reimburse because of the large number of requests at that time of year.

If you have money owed to you, you may want to collect it now so you can put it towards Christmas.

HSA's don't expire - you can roll them over year after year. Are you refering to MSA's (medical savings accounts)?

If the account is administered through your employer, whatever money is not used within that year is lost. If the plan is privately held by you and administered by a bank, then the money rolls from year to year.

In our case, our employer administered plan money was used up in MAY! I wish I could make it last to become Christmas money. I used to do that and it was a wonderful.

That's what ours is.

I put off new glasses for this year so my husband could hike our deduction up a little to cover it.

We signed up for an account for next year - If we don't end up having a baby, it will force one of us to spend the money to get LASIK finally.

Our's doesn't roll over. You are lucky if you have that as an option.

Thanks for the reminder.
