We still do not have insurance and, as luck would have it, both my husband had to go to the doctor today and my daughter will be going in the morning. I talked with both offices about my current situation of self-pay and it turns out that, at my husband's appointment today, he will save 15% and my daughter's appointment is 30% if we pay in full, that day for the appointment!

Just a little something to keep in mind if you have any doctor's appointments that your insurance will not cover!

I don't know of our Dr's office since we do have insurance but our denist office. Where we do have inc but it is not that great when we have to pay for a filling or anything else done if you pay cash or check you get 15% off.

Our dentist gives a 5% discount if you pay in cash or check the day of service. They don't if you pay by credit card.

Our dentist always asks (himself, before he leaves the exam room...not the secretary) if you have insurance. A couple of years ago, DH didn't have dental ins. and the doc walked him to the check-out desk and took quite a bit off of his bill to make it affordable. I remember being soooooo appreciative.

Of course, many people say this is wrong (b/c they say the docs are inflating the cost to the ins. co. and therefore, raising ins. costs to the consumer...depending on the kind of ins. (?)) but it is really nice to have someone make what you need more affordable.

My family doctor is such a wonderful man! Right now he is overseas working a free clinic in Afganistan. Last year I was horribly sick. I mean, I puked in his trashcan 3 times while he was in there examining me. He knows I'm uninsured, and also knows I'm only seen myself if I think I'm dying (maybe once every 2 or 3 years). He saw me for FREE. I offered to pay, he said no. Then he gave me 4 refills on my antibiotics, 2 on my Phenagran, and 2 on Hydrocodone. (I had a stomach flu and Strep at the same time.) He then told me that since my husband isn't insured, these doses would work for him, if he caught my cooties, saving us another trip to the office. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I was. I would have cried if I wasn't already from feeling so bad.

Our doctor's office and the hospital in the same system take 10% off if you pay cash.

I think it is more affordable for them because they is no question of it being sent to collections later on.
