Question What's the highest mileage you've ever gotten out of a car?

Probably one of the best ways to save money is to hang on to your car as long as you can. It's always cheaper to make repairs (even putting in a new engine) than to make car payments.

What's the highest mileage you've ever gotten out of one of your family's cars?

So far, the highest mileage we've ever gotten out of one of our cars is 115,000 on a Nissan pickup. It still had life left in it, but we traded it in because we wanted another vehicle that the whole family could comfortably ride in.

My '99 Z24 had 235,000km on it when I got bored (it worked perfectly) of it and wanted an older truck.

That's great! I've heard that Hondas can go for a long time. I knew someone once that had a late 80's Honda Accord with over 400,000 miles on the original engine and she still took it on long road trips without a second thought.

It's a 98 and has developed a few issues, but she has a new boyfriend who likes to tinker with cars, and he recently replaced the tie rods and a bad seal that was causing her to hemmorhage oil. Her dad got the car for her when the courier company he used to work for decided they would rather lease their cars than own them, and offered the employees the chance to buy them cheap. I think he paid something like $600 for it. Since neither she nor we can afford to replace it, she's babying it.

Our 94 honda civic has 209k on it, original engine, transmission, etc. Dh commutes in it to work everyday, about 70 miles total, it runs great and gets awesome gas mileage. We don't use it on long road trips (mostly due to size)

We just sold our 95 volvo wagon with 150k on it after the transmission died.

To us, a car is "new" when it has less than 100k

Besides the 1940 which has a rebuilt motor and the 70 convertible and 71 lemans that all have rebuilt motors.

It would be DH's GMC truck, which had 350,000 miles on it, when he traded it in on his 2002 Chevy truck.
