For some reason in my area, most VBSs are at night so I usually don't sign dd up for any. However, last year she went to an awesome one that was in the morning and had a great time! I'm hoping to sign her up again this summer for it.

So far, all the VBSs around here have been free. The one dd went to last year asked for donations for their food drive during the VBS week and I was happy to contribute.

DS went last year and loved it - it is in the afternoon and is free and then there is a free dinner for the family afterward - we stayed for dinner a few nights not all. DS loves it and I plan on taking him again - hope it is still free - it is a drive but it is where he went to preschool - may look to see if a local church has one as well. I need to check and see if they still offer Pioneer club Wednesday nights - right now it runs to late for DS because of school but maybe during the summer and during breaks.

My kids go to our VBS which is free and in the evenings...usually around 200 or so kids attend and it is so well organized I don't worry at all about my kids...and then my ds goes to the VBS at his old preschool which of course is not our church and they have a fee and my dd goes to the chinese christian church with her friend for their VBS....it's a great way for the kids to have a chance to go to a "camp" and learn about God and the Bible and the cost is usually so minimal it is not usually an issue about going or not going...the games are fun, the crafts are cute and the kids have a great time....(and mom gets a couple of hours to herself!)

We do our VBS which is free and a week long. The shirt costs $5 if you want to buy it. I also am a volunteer and love the whole thing.

I also take them to another local Church where some of their school friends attend for Basketball camp and the cost is $25 each. This includes a brand new basketball, snacks, a T-shirt and basketball lessons. I volunteer for this one too. I have as much fun as the kids do, so it is worth it to me.

Some are free around here and some cost. We usually go to more than one and the kids just love it. My church is doing an evening one this year, so I don't think we'll be able to do our own church with work schedules, but I'll send them to a couple morning ones.

VBS has come a long way since I was a kid. The ones around here are high-energy and tons of fun for the kids. Its amazing how creative some churches can be with their themes! I wouldn't make them go if they didn't love it!
