Question Does anyone know if AARP really saves you money?

My dh turned 50 a few weeks ago. An AARP application arrived on the day of his birthday. I presented it to him along with his birthday cake.

I know that my dh and I are older than the average people on this board , but I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not AARP is worth the $18 per year? Do you have parents or grandparents that belong to AARP?

You're not that old! Hubby and I both qualify for AARP - and we have memberships.

I don't use mine much at all. It can - definately - save you money while travelling if you have no other discount available to you like AAA. The discount for one hotel stay alone will be more than the price of the annual membership. For hubby, he gets a better discount by asking for the corporate rate because he travels on business, but AARP is always an alternative.

My only gripe with AARP is once you join they don't stop hounding you. I could do with a lot less junk mail from them.

So, basically it's only a good thing if you do a lot of traveling?
