Yard sale then donate what's left over.

This is a timely topic for me. I've been struggling with the decision to donate or have a yard sale. Most of what I have is kids clothes and shoes. I've been hanging on to the best of it, name brands and practically new items, thinking I'd eventually sell them. But, there they sit.

Yard sales are such a hassle, imo. I've sold other things on Craigslist, but never clothes. Not sure they'd sell that way. Have any of you had success with selling kids clothes on CL? Any tips?

Thanks!

i'm too lazy and don't have any "big" items to make a yard sale worth while. i freecycle. i'm an active giver and taker, so i think everyone wins.

We donate to big brothers big sisters, they pick up. We just discussed this over the weekend and agreed we make more with the tax deduction than any yard sale we've had (we also are far from a main road).

I consign most of the kids stuff. I also consign books and movies at our local book store. Everything else I donate to Goodwill and get a tax deduction form. I haven't had a garage sale in years!!!

I consign everything I can. However, certain things I will sell on Craigslist. But if it doesn't sell I will then donate it. The Yardsale thing for me just doesn't work. I cleaned out really well about a year ago so really the only thing for me to get rid of is the kids clothes and toys every so often and I do really well with consignment for myself and my kids. I will also shop consignment and goodwill.

I donate to local facilities. I have hung onto things for a garage sale to the point that the garage was packed full but never have time to have the garage sale, a few months ago I went through the whole house and cleaned out everything we didn't need and donated it all. so much less clutter now.
