When you're getting rid of old (but still good) things, do you prefer to donate them, consign them, or have a yard sale?

For us, we don't mess with yard sales anymore. They're a hassle and we don't seem to get a ton of traffic. I've done the consignment thing (it's a twice a year sale where you price your own stuff) and I've made some decent money, but I've had some things mysteriously disappear and I had a really cute shirt of dd's get dropped on the floor, stepped on, and stained. Donating is easy -- write down what you're donating, donate it, and save the donation form for your taxes.

I just donate. I have no place to store things to get enough together for a garage sale and I like to get it out of my house as soon as I can.

Donate. It's easier for they come and pick up.

When the kids were younger with lots of clothes, garage sale. Now I don't have enough "stuff" for a garage sale, so I just donate.

I do a mix.
I donate the still good stuff but not pricey enough to warrent the time and energy to sell and then utilize the free online classified ads for my bigger ticket items (I've been getting rid of what I call my "overflow" furniture that I've been lugging around but not actually using>>so far I've made of $550 in less than 1 month).

Burn the good candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion...Today IS special.

Up until this year, I always did the consignment thing!

But this year, I just donated everything to our church for their yard sale.

Oh and I'm also fond of putting things at the end of my driveway with a "free" sign...I only do this with items that are actually in decent enough shape that someone may actually want to stop and take it. Otherwise if I think that it's a so so item I'll do the same thing with the sign but I make sure it's the day before garbage day so if nobody grabs it I can just remove the sing and the garbabge man takes it. I can't stand it when people leave crap out on their lawns for +++ time.
